Videowave Has Stopped Working (Creator 2010)

jsm725

Question

Hello,

I have taught my father to use Roxio Creator 2010 for the sole purpose of converting all of his home movies into dvd's. He had an older computer that would barely run Creator so he decided to buy the computer listed in my signature. But for some reason (and no he is not running IE 9) every time he tries to cut out pieces of video in VideoWave, the program hangs and then crashes. He gets the VideoWave 12 has stopped working error. I have tried repairing the installation and doing a clean install per the instructions in this forum. I am stumped and would appreciate any help.

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

Or at least the 'ranking' that the Forum assigns you based on post count

I am aware. I just thought it was funny that she called me by my forum ranking rather than my user name. Just injecting some color commentary.

Unless you have the identical system and are doing an identical project with the same files you do not have the same problem.

Please start your own thread, describing your computer system and supply some details about your project and what is happening.

Who the heck is Rookie? hahaha :D

I am having the exact same problem as Rookie! I am trying to work with the video and it keeps cutting me off. Is it the program? I have always used photos to do the slideshow but i wanted to add video to it and it keeps shutting me down. Please someone help...

Can you play the vob files using a software video player like Windows Media Player (WMP)?

Do you always add all the files before you start editing?

Have you just added one file and tried the edit?

Have you tried to edit a files from some other source?

1) Yes, that is the process my dad has used, so that is the process I was mimicking.

2) I tried that just now and still get the error (it was a single 12 minute long file).

3) I copied the files to an external drive, just added one video, and still got the same crash.

I am sure this is as frustrating for you guys as it is for me. I work in IT as well and going through a lengthy troubleshooting process with no results is very frustrating. I just wanted to say again, that I am very thankful for everyone's help and hopefully your continued help as well.

Tech support is still trying to assist me (if that is what you want to call it). There have been four different people that have tried to help. They have requested I update my video drivers and DirectX (twice). They have asked me to run a DirectX Diagnostic tool (and then didn't tell me if that helped). And now the newest (and in my opinion the strangest) request, create a new user account named Roxio. I am assuming they think I may be running that app under a non-admin account. I thought it was stupid, but trying to let them do their thing, I created the account and got the same crash.

Then Roxio alerted me to an update. I installed it and still got a crash, but this time it gave me an error to show you guys. Screenshots are attached.

Nope these are new questions...

1) I am using the same files. (didn't want to introduce any new variables while testing, but I can if needed)

2) My Dad has burned all of our VHS home movies to DVD's (he used his DVD player/burner hooked to his TV). Using Roxio he moved the files from DVD to his hard drive (.VOB files). He did all this on his previous computer. That computer's hard drive was not big enough to hold all their videos, music and pictures, so he bought an external TB hard drive where he placed all the videos. When he got the new computer (purchased because VideoWave kept crashing, ಠ_ಠ), I moved all the contents of the external TB hard drive to the internal hard drive of the new computer. That is where they are now.

3) The files vary in length. When I start VideoWave, we add all the files he wants on the project. The files are 12, 3, 46, 13, 1 and 7 minutes in length. I have never gotten past trying to edit the first video (12 minutes).

Please let me know if I need to explain further or if I did not answer the question appropriately. Thanks again for your help.

Are you using different video files or is the problem always with the same file?

How did you get the video on your hard drive? How long in time is the video you are working on?

Sorry if you have answered these questions already.

Tech support responded with the following link.

The only item that had not been suggested by the moderators in this forum was the DirectX update. I updated the DirectX and I am still receiving the same error. The saga continues...

If you don't get a reply in a day or so, make sure you check you spam filter folder; sometimes reply from Roxio end up there.

I have a virtual image of his old computer that he can boot up in VMware Player, but it is not running when I try to edit the video. It is suspended and the VMware Player application is closed.

Does anyone have any more suggestions?

Are you running an emulation - VMWare?

Sorry for the delay...

I have him running AVG Free. I have tried shutting down AVG and re-installing Roxio as well as turning AVG off while doing the editing and it still crashes.

As far as other programs, nothing is open but I have attached a tasklist /svc dump of his machine.

What anti-virus are your running? Make sure it is not trying to scan files as they are being written. What other programs are active when the video editing is being done?

Well that allowed me to trim about 10 seconds out of a clip once for every time I opened up Videowave. If I tried to do more than that, or trim 10 seconds twice, it would give the same error as before.

What else you got?

Many people run the program on laptops that do not normally have a video card so I'm not sure it that will help. BUT open Video Wave and go to tools options and make sure that software render is selected.

Tried the clean install with the Anti-Virus (and the firewall) shut off. Still nothing. Any more suggestions?

From the specs on the box of Creator 2010, the video card should work. It is compliant with everything it says on the box. Do I need to get him another one anyway?

Video card update didn't work. Now on to the clean install with anti-virus turned off.

I am downloading the newest driver from Intel. I will let you know how it goes.

Anti-virus was up and running when I did both the repair and the clean install. He is running AVG free, so I will shut that down and try again if the video card driver update doesn't take care of the issue.

And no, it doesn't throw an error code.

I will be back soon...

Go to the Dell computer utility on that Inspiron and put in the information it asks for. Look at the drivers and install the latest video driver for that computer. For his next birthday get him a real video card ! ;)

When you did the clean install, did you have your anti-virus active , paused or shut down? Is he running any registry cleaners including the one in Norton?

Is there a error ID number?
