Cd Spin Doctor 6.1 Crashes

MacWojo

Question

CD Spin doctor crashes after recording a vinyl album. After re-launching it won't open the recorded file.

Looking for a solution or an alternative for digitizing vinyl.

iMac Intel 2.8 GHz, Core i5, 12GB RAM, 2 GB HD, Snow Leopard 10.6.7

Check to see if you have any VST plugins from Bias in your Mac's Library>Audio>VST>Plugins folder. If you do, temporarily remove them while using CD Spin Doctor.

Thank you for the suggestion however I did not have any VST plugins.

Problem persists.

I am more inclined to find an alternate application.

Bias sells an alternative. If you think you'll ever upgrade to Toast 11 the new version of Spin Doctor is very different from the one in Toast 10 so it, too, is an alternative.

I purchased CDSD version 6 directly from Roxio. Then updated to 6.1. According to Roxio's web site this is the latest version of CDSD.

Do you know that there is a difference between the version of CDSD that comes with Toast 11 and the stand-alone version of CDSD?

That version of CD Spin Doctor is not the latest version and is not compatible with OS 10.6. Roxio updated that version with a Toast 10 update for Snow Leopard but didn't update the standalone version (don't know why). The version in Toast 10 is 6.1.2t. They rewrote it and changed its name to Spin Doctor X for Toast 11. However, that version isn't quite finished as it needs more work. So the version bundled with Toast 10 is the best at this point and is the one you'd be most familiar with. You can read my posts about Spin Doctor X in the Toast 11 forum. There already has been one update to that version.

If you have Snow Leopard then get Toast 11 rather than 10 even if the current Spin Doctor X isn't quite finished. Or if you don't want Toast get the capture application sold by Bias. If you're on Roxio's email list they are offering some specials.

Yes I have Snow Leopard. I just purchased and installed Toast-11 including entering the key.

Still get the Audio Capture install error: "CDSDAudioCapture.....kext" error. Followed the delete "CDSD....kext" in system/library/extensions then install AudioCapture from the Toast-11 application package. Failed installation, no details.

CDSD doesn't record, can't change default scratch file location - frustrated and disgusted.

OK. I need to make sure I understand this clearly. You bought and installed Toast 11. Are you trying to use the "Spin Doctor" application in the Toast 11 folder or are you still trying to use the "CD Spin Doctor" application from before? I don't recall the new Spin Doctor wanting to install the CDSDAudioCapture so getting that error seems odd to me. I also don't understand when you refer to installing AudioCapture from the Toast 11 application. I don't know what that is. Are you sure you're not referring to Toast 10? If it is Toast 10, check if CD Spin Doctor is version 6.1.2 and if not download the latest Toast 10 update from the Roxio Software Updates page.

All of my references are to Toast-11 and I am trying to use the CDSD application version 1.0.1 (v582) that came with Toast-11.

The first thing CDSP wants to do the first time it is launched is install the Audio Capture. Clicking OK runs an installer that fails with the notice "SYSTEM EXTENSION cannot b used - The system extension "/System/Library/Extensions/CDSDAudioCaptureSupport.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it or contact the product's vendor for an update."

On this Forum when this problem occurred with previous versions of CDSD, one of the recommendations was to delete the "CDSD...kext" extension from the System/Library/Extensions folder the right-click the CDSD application (not the Toast application that I mistakenly referenced), show the package contents, go to the Resources folder, and double-click the "Audio Capture" package. This does not work with the current version of CDSD.

One notable discrepancy I discovered is that on the Roxio Software Updates page, the update for the standalone CDSD is 6.1.1. The only way to get the 6.1.2 version is to download the entire Toast-10 update package. Having done that CDSD 6.1.2 fixes all the problems I was having.

Thanks for your patience and sharing. I think I am back in business digitizing my vinyl.
