Problems With Easy Audio Capture And Sound Card Microsoft Xp

k1mac

Question

Hello,

After reading some of the forums I am a little nervous to ask for help. First let me say that I am not a computer genius. I can operate Microsoft programs and install programs. I have a high comprehension level and can follow instructions.

I am having problems with the easy audio capture and my sound card. I want to capture audio from the internet. I have got some recordings but the playback sound is terrible, very low and garbled. After reading some of the help and forum sites I have check to make sure that the volumes are set high and everything is unmuted. I have also checked for updates for my sound card driver and there are not any. I researched on the internet and found some information about USB plug in sound cards. So my questions are:

1. Do you have any suggestions for fixing the recording problem?

2. Will a USB plug in sound card work with Roxio? In other words can I solve my problem with a USB sound card?

I would appreciate any help and look forward to hearing from someone soon.

Thank You,

K1mac

What audio site are you trying to capture? What format are you capturing? What Operating System are you running? Did you check to make sure that the recording device is set to speakers in Windows? I could not tell if you had adjusted that volume or if you were just talking about in the application itself. When you are recording. do you see the blue bars jumping? If not, use the drop down to select each of the other options until you see the recoding taking place.

The USB device might help if you were capturing from a local source - LP deck, tape player, etc.

I am trying to capture audio from a internet radio site. It is a mix that I can download into Realplayer, but I cannot capture it with Roxi. It downloads as an mp3. Operating system? I am not sure what you me but I have a Dell desktop with Windows XP. The recording device in windows only gives me one option and it is Sigma Tel Audio. I did adjust the volume in windows. When I do record I see the blue bars jumping with the line in option.

Stay away from putting anything into folders for Real player for now. Download to a new folder somewhere else.

Operating system is common terminology for what (in case of PC) Windows version you are running. You said XP so you did answer that. Make sure you have XP SP3 installed.

Update or reinstall the driver for that SigmaTel device from Dell's web site. They will have instructions. You didn't post the Model number so I can point you to exactly where.

You said that you now have audio but it is weak and fuzzy but the clicking is no longer and issue.

The blue bars should go all the way to the right and in the loudest section, slightly bounce into the next section.

From what you say, it appears that you are capturing the audio successfully but not playing it back properly. How do you have your playback device set in XP. Is that volume up? Are your speakers turned up.

Also, just in case, try a different internet site. Some MAY have forms of DRM protection but I doubt it.

Would it make a difference if my speakers run through an amp/sub wolfer (sorry I am not really sure of the lingo)? Do I need to change the configuration? I looked in windows but the only options were for 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound, which I do not have. So right now I have them set as desktop speakers.

No it should not matter that you have it plugged into the amp/sub woofer for playback. I'm assuming that you have done this before and it worked. Is there any possibility that the output wire from the computer to the amp is plugged in correctly at both ends. I remember one person who had a similar problem and "somehow" the wire was plugged into the wrong port.

I don't have XP loaded any more so I can't ask you more about the settings. Sorry. I'm sure that someone who has XP will come in and post an image of the proper settings.
