RoxUpnpServer and RoxUpnpRenderer

Question

I do not have any UPnP devices attached to my computer nor anywhere else in my house. Can I safely disable the RoxUpnpServer and the RoxUpnp Renderer services?

At the very least, can I safely deny these processes access to the internet?

Would you kindly explain precisely what these two processes do?

Many thanks for your help! :)

You can disable those services. I have mine set to manual just in case I want to use them, but I see no reason not to have them disabled. Resource hogs.

... I have mine set to manual just in case I want to use them....

Many thanks for your advice. Why would you want to use them, i.e., which component(s) of the Roxio suite use these services?

It's not that I'm seeking to pare my running services to the minimum...I just remember the brouhaha when XP was introduced about potential security concerns with UPnP.

P.S. Your granddaughters are cute.

I believe that you need to have those running to use Liveshare, in EMC 8. I don't use Liveshare.

A thanks on the P.S. :)

If you want to uninstall that part, Control Panel>Add/Remove>EMC8> Change>Modify. Then unselect the Roxio Home Connect. Like yourself, I have no UPnP devices and just don't install it.
