Individual Vob Files Ship In Processing

Beatleman

Question

Hello, Since this is my first time here , I don't know if this topic has been discussed , I recently purchased Toast 10 Titanium Pro , along with a new IMac , Being a long time collector of Beatle Videos , I was excited about making my own compilations , but alas I've had nothing but trouble. I put individual VOB files into the DVD -Video window , everything seem fine , but the burns always skip, I even tried saving as a disc image , and even that shows up with skips , so I know that it's a flaw in the TTP 10 software , It seems that TTP 10 doesn't live up to its name !! No matter what I do This application can not create a flawless DVD from individual VOB files . I've updated to 10.0.8 , but still have the same issues, and as far as Dual Layered Discs, forget it !! every single one has failed , Is there ANYTHING that can remedy and fix these issues , surely Roxio can figure out the bug and make a patch or something , They now have Toast 11 for sale , How can they expect people to buy that , when TTP 10 seems to be a failure ??? , Can Roxio please help with this issue ?? Thank you very much..

Toast doesn't like VOB files. If your VOB files are in a VIDEO_TS folder the way to add them to Toast is via the Media Browser. Place the VIDEO_TS folder on the desktop (or in the Movies folder) and choose DVD with the top button of the Media Browser. Double click on what appears in the browser window and you'll see the individual video titles. Double click on a title and you'll see its chapters. Drag the titles or chapters you want to the main Toast window. Toast then extracts the video from the VIDEO_TS.

If your VOB files are not within a VIDEO_TS folder you need to use MPEG Streamclip or a similar application to convert them to mpeg or mpg for use in Toast.

A couple suggestions, and I'm not a Mac or Toast user, rather a PC, Creator 2011 user. What brand(s) of disc are you using? Have you tried another brand? Have you tried your discs in more then one player? Are they skipping if you play them on your computer? Are you using DVD-R or DVD+R discs? Have you tried the "other" type?

Basically, from what you've said, I would guess it's more of a media/drive/player incompatibility issue than a software issue, which is not uncommon. Verbatim media has been quite reliable, and if you can find some Taiyo-Yuden/JVC media, that would also be a good suggestion. Some players are happier with +R media, some are happier with -R media. And, surprisingly, it's often the cheaper players that will play home burned discs better. I have an expensive Sony player that is usually happy with DVD+R discs, but doesn't much care for DVD-R discs. I have a $30 Magnavox player that will play just about anything I've ever put in it.

So, let us know some of the things you've tried hardware-wise.

Hi, What I've tried is the following, I have all of the VTS files on my desktop , and I select the ones that I want , and drag the individual VOB's into the DVD-Video window of Toast, I name the files such as Let It Be , Paperback Writer and so on, under the title of each one is the info: Video: MPEG-2 , 720 X 480 , 29.97 fps. AUDIO : Dolby Digital , Stereo , 48000 Hz. This method prevents any loss in quality. I've used Verbatim DVD-R , Memorex DVD-R , Verbatim DVD-R DL , Verbatim DVD+R DL , Memorex DVD+R DL , Sony DVD-R , all have the same result , Now here's the kicker , On my old Mac G4 , I used Toast 7, and it burned perfectly !! If the older version of Toast 7 worked great on a G4 operating OS 10.4.11 , then it seams that there must be some conflict with the newer operating system of OS 10.6.7 ?? There is also the issue of Toast 10 not reading the correct amount of available burn space on the discs , There are other issues , in the VIDEO_VTS COMPILATION of Toast 10, If you drop multiple folders , it comes up with a warning the the files have not been correctly reformatted ??? . I guess what gripes me the most is that the Apple representative assured me that what I wanted to do with the TT10 Pro would work flawlessly , so I shelled out $150 for what I feel was a very flawed application.. P. S. , I tried what tsantee suggested , but it did exactly the same as with the other method of drag and drop. Thanks everyone..

So the play back stutters and skips even if you use the media browser to extract the videos rather than dragging the VOBs directly into Toast? And those skips appear when playing the disc image as well as from a disc? And Toast 7 did this without the skips? Something certainly is amiss with Toast 10, at least on your Mac. Have you updated to 10.0.8? I'm presuming Toast reported that it was multiplexing and not encoding the video.

There is a bug with Toast 10'd VIDEO_TS folders section but I hadn't heard of that error before. Maybe I just haven't tried the same thing you're trying.

By the way, you say you just bought Toast 10 Pro. If you bought it with a short time of the release of Toast 11 maybe you can get the dealer to exchange it for the new version. In addition to being rewritten for 10.5 and above, it has a nifty editor that would be perfect for the project you're doing. It makes it easy to mark start and end points for multiple titles from an existing DVD or VIDEO_TS source.

Hi, I have updated to 10.0.8 but there is no difference , so that would certainly indicate that there must be a conflict between OS 10.6.7 and TT10 PRO. I contacted the Roxio technical support and I am waiting to hear what they come up with , but I've talked to others who say they won't do anything ,

They are of the opinion that because Roxio has put out Toast Titanium 11 , they'll just bypass all the problems with TT 10 . I truly hope that it is not the case . Thanks and have a nice day.
