Their customer service is laughable. Do they have grade school kids replying?

Here's that latest email (the FIFTH one - the same crap answers:

"A Roxio Agent has responded to your ticket! Please Click your ticket number to view your ticket.

Customer Support writes:

Dear Roger,

I understand your frustration.

In order to resolve the audio issue please update the latest audio driver by contacting the system manufacturer and then try to use Easy VHS to DVD for Mac.

Regards,

Andy.

Roxio Customer Care"

Can you believe this crap? I have told them repeatedly that NOBODY with a new 2011 MacBookPro can get their software to work - it is their defective software, and yet they keep telling me to reinstall the software, check the cables, look at their instructions, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH, which I've already done half a dozen times. I have told them to get a 2011 MacBookPro and try it themselves but they refuse. Now they want me to contact Apple for the "latest audio driver"! They are the most jackass outfit I've seen as far as customer support.

I have reviewed the ticket and agree the responses are not up to par at all. I have sent your ticket to our Training and Escalatuon managers and they will deal with the agent accordingly.

Very sorry for the inconvenience.

The latest from roxio techies is to "clean install" the software! No matter what I say, there has never been a serious reply to the problem!

I told them to try to their software on a 2011 MacBook Pro and they would see that it WON'T work. I've never heard back from them.

Not an ideal long term solution, but for the moment this should help. The issue likely affects not only the 2011 MacBook Pro, but also the iMac models released this week which I believe boot by default into the 64-bit kernel.

No Audio Can Be Previews or Captured With Easy VHS to DVD for Mac

Many new models of Apple computers have been launched that launch into Snow Leopard (Mac OS X v10.6) with a 64-bit kernel. When using Easy VHS to DVD for Mac with these recently released models, users will be unable to capture audio. In order to work around this issue, you will need to restart your machine using the 32-bit kernel.

1) Shutdown your computer

2) Press the power button to turn on your computer

3) Immediately after pressing the power button, hold both the number 3 and the number 2 key on your keyboard down until you see your desktop or login screen.

Please note, this change is not permanent. In order to revert back to the 64-bit kernel, restart your computer without holding down any keys.

When you have started your computer with the 3 and 2 keys on the keyboard held down, you should be able to capture both audio and video correctly using the Easy VHS to DVD for Mac software. We will update this article if and when additional information on this topic becomes available.

I have returned the product to the store I bought it from for a full refund. I had enough of roxio and will never buy a roxio product again.

OK another useless update!

Roxio's outsourced employees, evidently in India, continue taking turns to reply to my "ticket" and every time they give me the same crap from the beginning. They don't bother to read what has been stated before and every one of them assumes I have no clue about the issue so every new one of them tells me AGAIN to check the connections and do the same crap!

This is what I wrote to the latest crap from them (shouting and all, maybe they will notice):

LISTEN TO ME: Read what has been already written before you repeat all the basic "stuff" we have already talked about and finished with! OK? READ WHAT WE HAVE ALREADY COVERED BEFORE YOU GIVE ME THE "STUFF" YOU ARE REPEATING!

You are just repeating the same "STUFF" again! I have already done all that and there is A PROBLEM WITH THE AUDIO in this roxio contraption! DID YOU READ THAT? THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE AUDIO? SHOULD I REPEAT: THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE AUDIO! REPEAT: THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE AUDIO!!!!! FIX IT!

I have replied to them several times - they give me the same crap answers each time, to look at their video set up, unplug it, check my cables, blah, blah, blah. I have told them repeatedly: get yourself a NEW 2011 MacBook Pro and try your adapter and software! IT WILL NOT WORK! Nobody and I mean nobody, that I have seen in these forums with a 2011 MacBook Pro (Thunderbolt) has gotten their stuff to work. I have told them to check out their own forums here. But it's some robot on the other end that reads my messages. The support is USELESS! I might make up a web site about DON'T BUY FROM ROXIO.

I wasn't getting audio as well. My Audio control panel showed a USB device had been added to my "Input Devices" list. When I selected it I got what looked like audio input bars in the control panel but I still got no response shown or heard in the Roxio product. I then quit the VHS-to-DVD product. Started Toast. And I the started VHS-to-DVD and I had audio bars and sound from my Mac..... The funky USB audio device disappeared from my audio control panel, too.

No idea if this helps you. YMMV.

Hi everyone! After several exchanges, I got this answer that works with my MacBook Pro 17" 2011 model, MacOS 10.6.7, Easy VHS to DVD 1.0.3:

NOTE: You can determine if your Mac is running 32 or 64-bit by going to your System profiler: Apple menu > About This Mac > More Info > Software. Hurray!!! Now we just have to wait until Roxio releases a 64-bit compatible version of Easy VHS to DVD!

After getting the product to work I am going to bring the whole dang thing back for a refund... the quality of the copies is awful even at the best setting. I'm gonna dig out the VHS-to-DVD Toshiba recorder out of storage and get the copies done that way. The process is funky there too but at least the copies come out excellent.

Guess what? I just got an email from their sales to buy Easy VSH to DVD. I checked out the system requirements and there is NO MENTION THAT IT WILL NOT WORK WITH THE NEW MACS. This is an UNETHICAL COMPANY!

I have been working all day on loading one hi8 tape (2 hours long) using Roxio VHS to DVD only to find that when I bring up the file with iMovie, there is NO audio.

I have a McBook Pro (2 years old) running Lion 10.7.1

I wish I had read all these posts and been a little less eager to buy this product.

I've already tried three different S cables (thinking that it might be a bad cable), took out the USB extender (that came with the product) and tried about 10 different quick short (< 1 minute) copies of recordings using the different combinations of setups. NO AVAIL. I didn't realize the first couple of times that on the Connect Audio window, there is a message that says "When you hear sound through your Mac speakers, click Continue" Well, no sound ever projects out through my Mac speakers, yet there is audio coming off out of the old Sony TRV99 Handycam as the tape plays.

The video does get transferred and I am able to bring up the ".mov" file in iMovie - just missing the audio.

So, I'm beginning to come to the conclusion that there this is a KNOWN problem, but Roxio is not addressing the problem. VERY FRUSTRATING to say the least.

I've found another product: Elgato Video Capture Device and will probably buy it and cross my fingers that it will work.

I've got at least Qty 50 Hi8 camcorder tapes to convert and I'm anxious to get this long overdue project done!

Audio does not transfer from the camera via the S-video cable. That only transfers the video. You need another connector for the audio that connects to the red and white RCA plugs on the Roxio cable. Your description has me thinking you didn't connect the audio from the camera.

I also sent a complaint to Roxio on this issue. My new MBP 13.3" (the one with Thunderbolt) is also not registering the sound. If I go into the MBP preferences pane, under "Audio" I can see the device, and the meter bars are moving. However, in the Roxio software I am not registering any audio, no bars moving and no sounds I can hear. Go figure I get a new Macbook Pro and it's got compatibility issues with the one piece of hardware I wanted to use it with. *sigh*

I have the EXACT same problem!! The software works on my old MacBook Pro, but it doesn't work on my new 2011 MacBook Pro!!! 10.6.6 OSX works, 10.6.7 doesn't work!! When I contacted Roxio, they keep telling me to attach the cables correctly!!! I keep telling them that it works on my old computer, but not my new one!! I don't get it!!! I am becoming VERY frustrated with the company. They need to send out a patch or an update so that it can work with the new MacBook Pros!!!!!! Let me know if anyone comes across any information that can be helpful! Thanks!

I have a bit of an update. I wrote above, having the same problem. No audio on a new MacBook Pro running OS 10.6.7. I got an email, most probably from roxio's outsourced techies, giving me links on properly connecting the cables! I wrote back to tell them they have a REAL PROBLEM with this device and OS 10.6.7 and no talk about connections or cables is going to fix it. There is a lot of talk on these pages about bad support and customer relations from roxio and I can see why, but I have no time for nonsense. I wrote them to either fix it immediately or authorize me to return the contraption. I paid $87 (including tax) for it. I suggest everybody with a similar problem should SHOUT at them until their outsourced techies get off their behinds, contact their supervisors and come up with a solution.

Roxio has done NOTHING! Not even an acknowledgment about what is a repeatable, provable problem. No warning when you buy that it won't work with Snow Leopard and newest MacBook Pros. Unethical business practice.

Thanks for replying, Philomath. I am certainly going to return this useless contraption, and complaining to roxio.

Needless to say I will never buy anything made by this company again.

I have the same problem. I just bought the Roxio Easy VHS to DVD for Mac and everything works OK except the audio. I downloaded and installed the upgrade on this page, version 1.0.3, I believe, as well as the available upgrade for the accompanying Toast software. The problem is still there.

I am on a new MacBook Pro, using the latest software download, OS X 10.6.7.

Since others are experiencing the same problem, has Roxio responded or done anything about it?

I'm running Snow Leopard on a new 2011 MacBook Pro - video will come through but no audio. Others with the new MacBook Pro report the same problems. No response from Roxio.

That may be because of the model of MacBook Pro rather than because of Snow Leopard. It works okay with my 3-year-old MBP.
