Internet Explorer 9 Killed VideoWave

Putertuter

Question

I've been using the trim successfully for several weeks while converting my old VHS and Video cassettes. Suddenly today (after accepting the Windows Internet Explorer 9) the "trim" no longer works in the MyDVD.

I went to the restore point created before installing the IE9 and restored, but that didn't help.

I also reinstalled the Roxio Disk, and that didn't help. All I get now when I click on the "trim" button is the dialog box with the start and end thumbnails showing but the center is totally black. It won't allow me to do anything in the "trim" dialog box. I tried using the "wheel" to set start and end points, but that didn't take either.

Please help! I'm only halfway through my project.

Sorry, but the mythical IE9 – Slayer of Roxio simply does not exist… :glare: at least assuming you are using the official MS release of 3/15/11?

If you are using one of the Beta releases prior to that one, you know what you have to do ;)

Let's try this...

Do the Prep Steps to the letter!

Then start to install of the Suite, only pick Repair when it is offered.

But with the Restore you did, you may have to take the Unistall - Prep Steps - Reinstall route instead :(

Either way, be sure and try it out before installing the Roxio SP updates :)

Thank you for the detailed solution to my troubles with the VideoWave "Trim" function. I'll be trying the suggested steps in the morning when my mind is fresh.

I hope I can get the Roxio VideoWave working properly again. I also have the Pinnacle Studio 11, but I'm much lower on the learning curve, and I'd rather not start all over again.

I've gone through all the steps including updating my video card to the January 2011 version and the re-installation of the Roxio Premier 10. Everything works except the :(Trim box :(

I tried both: generating a new project, and opening a project that worked previously to these troubles. I get the same black central screen in the trim window. Even the start/pause button doesn't work.

Oddly enough, the trim box works in the Express DVD but not in MyDVD. Since I usually use the MyDVD to process multiple clips with transitions, overlays, and text, I have avoided the Express DVD option.

At any rate, this "glitch" has wasted a lot of my video-editing time. It's a good thing the videos don't need to be done until early June!

It is strange!

In another Topic I saw where Jon, the Roxio Moderator here, stated that he just checked and there is no issue with IE9 and Roxio.

You better be talking about 2010 and not some version based on EMC 10!!!!!

I don't have any notes on the 'Premier' version??? I had 2010 Pro but I recall 'Premier' being mentioned somewhere... When at the Home app, click on Help-About and tell me the full Version and Build numbers. I would like to add them to my notes. ;)

DVD Express is completly different program so something can work in one and not the other...

Of course you can do what most of do, and use Split and Delete in VW or you could use a combo of Express and VW to get things done :D

If you have Internet Explorer 9 Beta installed, please update to the full release of Internet Explorer 9 here. The full version of Internet Explorer 9 is compatible with VideoWave.

and the re-installation of the Roxio Premier 10.

Please run your software and go to the Help > About This Software box, and tell us EXACTLY which version and build number of Roxio software you're using.

In sorting out problems, as in tutoring, the first thing we need to ascertain is that we're all singing from the same songsheet.

First of all, I want to thank all three of you gurus for your interest. I appreciate your responses. :)

Here are some of the things I've tried in my trouble-shooting:

1. I'm using the Roxio Creator Premier SD 10.2 version (this was bought from Dell when I bought my Inspiron 530 with Windows Vista Home Premium in 2009)with the following specs:

Creator Premier

Version: 10.2.606

Build: 116B06A, DLP

Serial Number: deleted

Module Name: PX Engine

Build: 4.12.28a, 38

Module Name: Roxio Central Core

Version: 3.7.0

Build: 370B20A, DLP

Module Name: Roxio Creator Tools

Version: 3.7.0

Build: 370B07B, DLP

Module Name: Roxio Creator Data

Module Name: Roxio Creator Copy

Module Name: Roxio Creator Audio

2. On my old Dell Dimension (Windows XP)I used the Roxio VideoWave 5 and later upgraded to VideoWave 8. On that Dell, I had problems with the Internet Explorer when I went from IE6 to IE7. I was able to overcome this problem after about three weeks of agony. I don't want to go back to that computer because I now have a new capturing device (Pinnacle) on my Vista Computer and a much larger hard drive.

3. Now back to the topic at hand:

a. The trimmer does not work in my current VideoWave; all other functions are working.

b. I also have the Pinnacle Studio 11 on my Dell Inspiron 530, and now I'm using

that program instead of the Roxio VideoWave even though I liked the VideoWave better.

c. I tried rolling back to the Internet Explorer; however, because I had gone to a

Restore Point, I was unable to Uninstall it as the instructions recommended. In other

words, I'm probably stuck with the IE9.

d. I have a Laptop--Dell Studio 1745--that hasn't been updated to the IE9. I installed

the Roxio Creator Premier SD 10.2 in that computer and sent one of my video clips

to the laptop. After restarting, I used the Roxio MyDVD; everything, including the

trimmer worked just fine. :blink:This experiment leads me to believe that the IE9

is the culprit! :glare:

e. I do not intend to use that laptop for video editing for a number of reasons--mainly

because my husband uses it for his purposes.

f. For now, I've solved my video-editing problems, but I would still like to know

what to think about the VideoWave--Internet Explorer 9 issues. I have a number of

local folks who depend on me for answers to their computer problems.

Thanks again, Marianne

Here is some additional information:

I just tried trimming again in my VideoWave 10. The trimming still didn't work in the trimming window, so I decided to go to the Time-line. I wanted to see whether I could trim the video clips the way I have trimmed audio clips. Sure enough! On the Timeline I was able to use the slider to do the trimming! :D

Let me add to this thread:

I was using Creator 2010 yesterday and Video Trimmer was working fine (Win 7 Pro 32bit). Then I did the Explorer 9 "critical update." Video Trimmer quit working. I tried doing a repair install of Creator 2010: didn't fix it. I tried uninstalling Creator 2010 and reinstalling; didn't fix it. I tried backing up to a Win 7 restore points; they both failed.

As best I can tell, the update to Internet Explorer 9 breaks Video Trimmer and I haven't been able to fix it.

and you woudl be wrong as far as IE 9 being the cause...

I cannot repeat this enough, we asked Roxio and they assure us It ain't IE!!!

Myself and Others use IE9 with NO PROBLEMS...

And if you read post #9 they found that Trim did work.

I think this Topic has run its' course.
