All Of A Sudden, I Can't Get "video Trim" To Work Anymore

Blex Ink

Question

Although I'm far from expert, I have been editing videos with roxio since Sept '08. My first step has always been to trim the beginning and end of the clip with the trim module in either VideoWave or MyDVD. All of a sudden today, when I clicked on the trim button in VideoWave (Scissors symbol just below the far left end of the toolbar), the pop-up window comes up like normal, except the view screen in the center of it is solid black, and one of the control buttons have any effect whatsoever. I can't seem to do anything but close the window again. I tried MyDVD, but it didn't work there either.

I still have my old copy of EMC9 on my hard drive, as I never was happy with the "improvements" made on the audio modules in recent versions, and still use EMC9 for all my audio editing, but the video trim module in EMC9 was also not functioning.

I tried repairing the installation with the original install disk, but that made matters worse, in that the window which allows you to open last or existing files now didn't work either. So I totally un-installed Special edition 2010, and re-installed it after a clean boot, with nothing else running. that fixed the "new" problem, but the trim function still isn't working. I'm at a loss of what to do now. Any suggestions out there?

Peace,

Blex Ink

I neglected to include in my original post, that yesterday, I upgraded my Windows 7 to the Service Pack !, and today I downgraded my AOL v. 10.1 back to v. 9.6, due to compatablity issues with Windows 7. I fear that one or both of these changes put me where I am today. Any thoughts?

I had exactly the same problem with the black spot in the middle of the Trimmer. The gurus were unable to solve it (see my post "Internet Explorer 9 killed my Video Wave?"

Here's how I finally got around it:

I went to the timeline view instead of the storyline view. There on the tracks, I can use the slider at the ends of the clip to trim as much as I want.

Timeline is where most folks, including all the Gurus, who do video editing, cut out portions of video.

FYI: Putertuter does not even have Creator 2010 but rather, the Dell EMC 10 Premier. Those posts were moved to the proper Forum in the Legacy Software area ;)

While I do not have EMC 10 installed anymore, Trim in VW, Creator 2010 works just fine in either Timeline or Storyline view with IE9...

I too have the BLACK TRIMMER problem. It started after I installed EXPLORER 9. After I uninstalled EXPLORER 9 Trimmer works fine. The problem lies with compatability with trimmer and EXPLORER 9. If anbody gets a way to fix it....you will make alot of people happy!

WRONG!

I don't know how many different ways we have to keep saying this, Not IE9!!!!!!!!

Go to Microsoft updates, and select IE 9 and delete. It will roll you back to IE 8, and the trimmer will work again. I don't care how many say it is not IE9....try this if you ever hope to use Video Trimmer

Nope several of us do use IE9 and trimmer works fine...

Roxio was quearied on this and and said said the offical release version of IE9 carries no ill effects...

I have no doubt that you do have problems but it is not due directly to IE9...

Best I can suggest is to do the Prep Steps to the letter!

Then start to install of the Suite, only pick Repair when it is offered.

and on that note, this Topic is no longer productive :(
