unhappy vista user
back several years ago I bought a sanyo digital camera and it came with mgi photosuite se and it worked great under windows 95, 98, AND xp then I made a mistake I've been regretting since the day I did it, I bought a new computer with the "great" windows vista installed and now using my photosuite is like playing russian roulette, I know sooner than later the program will freeze up and not let me continue without shutting it down and restarting. I like to play around with photo editing doing alot of cut and pasting and cloning, I LOVED how easy photosuite se worked, it was simple and not very hard to run, you could do a cut and paste from one picture and move it to another with no problem, you could do cloning, resizing, etc. I USE to be able to leave this program running for days and could come back to it and start right where I left off with no problems but now it seems like I'm afraid everytime I'm working on something it will crash and then I have to REOPEN the program and start over again. I do a little newsletter on the side and there's about 50-60 pictures that I use on a regular basis and when I had the old computer running xp I'd cut and paste ALL my basic items at once so I could save time just by opening them in mgi and clicking copy then pasting to the new background, sometimes I'd have 50+ items open in photosuite at once and had NO problems but now like I said, it's like russian roulette, it's not IF the program will crash, it's WHEN will it crash, and it's usually when I'm right in the middle of trying to do something, when it crashes or locks up, I'm forced to shut mgi down and restart it but that clears EVERYTHING I've done to all the items I had open for cut and paste so if I want to use them, I have to start over again. I hate having to go back and use the clone feature to smooth out edges so I try to get my cut and paste as close to the image as I can WITHOUT going inside the lines so it takes a lot of time to do one if there's alot of curves or details and it's frustrating to get it done, try to paste it and then the program freezes again so it's back to square one again. I like to keep all the basic items I work with open and ALREADY traced for cut and paste since sometimes I'll change my mind about what item or photo I want to use. I know since Roxio bought out mgi they don't offer ANY support for legacy programs like photosuite se I hoped that MAYBE some of you might be able to suggest a program that was as easy to use and worked close to OR exactually like photosuite se(allowed cut and paste, resizing, etc)that was vista or windows seven compatable. I TRIED emailing the "knowledgeable" customer service people(said with tongue FIRMLY in cheek) and ask them what product(s) roxio had that was compatable with photosuite se and they tried to sell me software that burned and duplicated cds and dvds, I COULD NOT get them to understand I WAS NOT burning cds, I was TRYING to EDIT pictures. I've considered putting a separate hard drive in my computer and installing xp on it just to run this program on but I hate to go to all that, but if that's what it takes, I may do it. To me, vista has been one big headache, WAAAAAAAAY more trouble than it's been worth.

To me, vista has been one big headache, WAAAAAAAAY more trouble than it's been worth. I don't know any folks running W 95. I just retired a W-98 machine. I have a XP HD I boot to sometimes twice in the last month. W-7 x64 is my main OS and like all new OS's legacy software is not guaranteed. I would try Roxio Creator 2011 or 2011 PRO. Make sure your PC has enough horse power and other system requirements before buying. http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/creator/system-requirements.html If you buy from Roxio's website they have a 30 day like it or return it policy.. unhappy vista user
sadly, if we only lived in a perfect world where companies that released crappy bug filled operating systems like vista that caused more harm than good and NEVER worked like they said it would were forced to make sure THEIR product would be compatable with what people ALREADY had, not release something that caused your software to stop working right, maybe I'm wrong to think this but IF photosuite se worked with NO gliches or hang-ups under windows 95, 98, AND xp, I can't see ANY logical explanation as to why suddenly a PHOTO EDITING software would cause the mighty microsoft to have issues of compatability, to me, as many users of photosuite as they must be around the world, it boggles my mind that Roxio, the company that BOUGHT MGI can't or doesn't seem to care about anyone that was a user of photosuite, if they bought the company, they SHOULD stand behind ALL their product line, past, present, and future. Buying a company and then tossing it's former customers in the trash is NOT good business practice, it seems like to me SOMEONE in tech support at ROXIO could figure out a way to make the legacy software work with vista but no, that's NOT profitable, it's better to force someone to buy NEW software that does the EXACT same thing as the old software but it's got another name on it. I'm NOT a computer novice, I KNOW there's NO reasonable explanation for why an operating system SHOULDN'T allow a photo editing program to work UNLESS the company that made the NEW operating system had plans down the road to introduce it's OWN photo editing software and wanted to make it hard on the competition but SURELY microsoft wouldn't CLOUD up the sky and do that, ask NETSCAPE what happens if microsoft and windows decides they don't like to share. Mgi and the photosuite line of products MUST have been a good product that people liked, it seemed just about every printer or digital camera I saw a few years ago came bundled with SOME version of photosuite to edit the pictures with, you'd think roxio would care and TRY to do SOMETHING to help those users. not say "sorry about your dang luck, we bought MGI and killed it off but feel free to spend some MORE of your money and buy OUR products" Yeah, the roxio creator pro DOES do photo editing and I could do cut and paste with it but what about all the OTHER things I have NO use for? That's like buying a 20 piece chicken dinner just to get a drumstick, I've ALREADY got software that burns dvds, cds, makes movies AND dvds, have NO use for 3d (don't even like 3d movies). The bottom line is this, I liked photosuite se for one VERY simple reason, SIMPLICITY TO USE. IT did EXACTUALLY what I wanted it to do, if wasn't flashy with alot of extra USELESS things tossed in, when I buy new software I look for a product that does EXACTUALLY what I need it for, I don't buy a swiss army knife with 100 attachments if all I need and want is ONE knife. cdanteek
You obviously don't understand legacy software. A company is going to re-visit your 10 year old software and re-write code for a new operating system YOU choose to upgrade to, and give you a update for FREE. Where have you been since Windows 95 and what fantasy world do you live in?
unhappy vista user
went to amazon.com and looked roxio creator 2011 pro up at this page http://www.amazon.com/Roxio-246100-Creator-2011-Pro/product-reviews/B004074Y6U/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1 and out of 61 reviews, the rating was 61 Reviews 5 star: (13) 4 star: (15) 3 star: (14) 2 star: (6) 1 star: (13) when the same amount of people gave it a 1 as gave it a five, it makes me a little leary to put down $129 for something that might not even work, this came from bestbuy's review of creator pro: Roxio Creator 2011 Pro - Windows Average Customer Rating: 2 out of 5(3 Reviews) Rating Snapshot 3 reviews 5 stars 0 4 stars 1 3 stars 0 2 stars 0 1 star 2 pc world MIGHT have gave it a 4 out of 5 stars but when they asked the question if people would buy THIS item 81 people said no and the three user reviews on there of ACTUAL people NOT working for pc world ALL agreed and gave it a 1. I know there wasn't very many people reviewed creator on these sites but when I keep seeing AVERAGE reviews around three out of five or when out of 61 DIFFERENT people only 15 people said it was ABOVE average or good(4 stars),that's not EVEN half of the people surveyed gave it a passing review, the HIGHEST ranking it earned was four stars(15 people) but out of 61 reviews if you say three stars is average and everything ABOVE three is good or excellent and all below three is bad it breaks down to this 28 users found it good or better 14 found it average or ok 19 found it below average half of 61 is 30.5 and that's 50% of the total reviews, less than half of the total reviews thought this software was good or better, more than half thought it was average or worse, and for something that is running price wise around $130 or more I can't see this as being a substitute for photosuite, this sounds like a WAY overpriced bundle of software that MIGHT work and then it might be a jack of all trades and a master of none, I'd rather have 100 separate programs on my pc that all worked good than one that promised to do it all and did it all average or not at all. Bundled software that claims it can do everything and do it all well is like a chain, it's only as strong as the weakest link, if I have SEPARATE programs to handle dvd/cd burning, label making, photo editing, and dvd/cd creating and one of those fail, I can remove that program and reinstall it or if necessary replace it, bundled software like this that TRIES to do everything usually ends up coming up short somewhere. Brendon
unhappy vista user, You've had your moan, and repeated it several times. You could moan until Christmas, but it's still not going to change anything. The fact is, as you said at the start of your first post, the free MGI software you got with your video camera worked great under Windows 95, Win 98, and XP, but it doesn't work properly on your new computer under Vista. Your solution - if you're not going to buy some modern software - is to revert your computer to XP. You'll be surprised how fast it goes, and it will run your old software. Now this topic has been taking up resources and going nowhere for some time, so I am going to do a Big Jim and close it. Thank you, Brendon

Thank you, Brendon well, do me this favor since you all have been so friendly and helpful in here, just close my entire profile, I won't waste anymore of your time, I'll go back to my fantasy world where people aren't rude and freedom of speech isn't illegal. When I regestered with roxio they sent an email welcoming me to the roxio family, if this is how "family" gets treated, I'll leave the family.
