Turn off your anti-virus, put the disc in your optical drive and do a repair when that option comes up. Also never use a registry cleaner including the one that is active in some anti-virus programs unless you tell it to ignore Roxio and Sonic entries. plfroxio
Hi, I'm having the same problem. I bought & downloaded Roxio Creator 2011 from the roxio website & installed it. When I tried to access any effect (text effect, video effect, transition - any of the supplied content) the icons don't show up. Only a blue question mark. I de-installed and re-installed several times (after applying windows and other upgrades). No luck. I then de-installed Creator 2011, bought the hard copy version of Creator 2011 Pro and installed that. Still no luck. Is there anyone at Roxio that can help with this? It sure seems like a content installation issue to me. Thank you
sknis
What computer are you using? How much free space do you have on your system drive? Are you trying to install on somehting other than the system drive? How often do you do system maintenance - defrag, get rid of junk files, etc.? What operating system are you using ? ( 5 answers expected) Make sure your computer is updated by following these guidelines(update the firmware for your optical drive is optional. Uninstall/reinstall Creator 2011 following these instructions. Follow the instrcutions exactly.
plfroxio
- PC is an Acer Aspire 8930G - 500 GB C: drive with 163 GB free - I'm installing on the C drive (to default locations) - I defrag weekly, delete temp files every couple of weeks. Last time was 5 days ago. - OS is Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 2 I have followed the guidelines with one exception: I did not update the firmware for my DVD burner and don't want to unless its definitely the root cause. I've been through a series of de-installs/installs. I will uninstall and reinstall again - this will be the 4th time, however the instructions you've pointed me to are more thorough than the others I saw so its worth another try. I will post the results afterwards - probably won't be till tomorrow evening as the uninstall/install takes some time. Thanks very much - I appreciate the help. plfroxio
Still no luck - same results. Can you tell me the icon file names & where they should reside - maybe I can just copy them manually. Thank you

sknis
Hi, Roxio folks, any fix ideas? Thanks Are you installing while the laptop is plugged in. It needs that power and you should shut of any power saving options for now. What anti-virus do you have? Is it shut off or just paused? Look here C:\Program Files (x86)\Roxio 2011\VideoUI\ to see if they are on your computer. You are installing to your system drive aren't you? plfroxio
Hi, Thanks. Yes, the laptop is plugged in & the only power saving option that's enabled is if the machine is not plugged in, the display dims. Normally I run AVG free but I disabled the AVG start up processes and services until I'm done with the Roxio installs/de-installs. Right now if I look under Sys Config services/startup there is no AVG stuff enabled or running. Yes I see tons of files under C:\Program Files (x86)\Roxio 2011\VideoUI I guess worst case I can look at the .mpg and .png files if i have to, to figure out the effects. Do you think its worth trying the 2012 release or is that a risk since its so new? I'm feeling defeated and not sure what else to do. I do appreciate your help. sknis
Throwing money at a upgrade would be a waste. It would not solve your problem. Reinstall only the downloaded content file. It might fix it after a couple of tries. The only other advice I have to offer is to uninstall Creator 2011 and the content using the free Revo Uninstaller in the Moderate Mode. It will use the built in uninstaller and then delete the safe to delete registry entries - there are a LOT of them. Go here and make sure you download the free and not the Pro version (unless you want the other add-ons.
plfroxio
H, The 2011 Pro is the last one I bought and its on disk. I copied everything off the disk to do the install, but I don't know where just the content file is. If you can point me to it, I'll try reinstalling (I'll try it a few times and if that fails I will try the Revo Uninstaller as you suggested). Thanks again, very much. I thought that you said that you had bought the download. Some people who do forget to download all the files. I thought perhaps that is what happened. Your Creator 2011 disc is all inclusive except for the PRO add-ons.

plfroxio
Hi, I did buy the download of Creator 2011 first, then after I had trouble with the icons I bought a hard copy of Creator 2011 Pro (hoping the issue was with the downloadable version of the product). I installed it first from cd. Then this thread pointed me me to instructions that said after de-install, copy all the files off the cd and do the install from the disk drive, so that's what I did last. I'll give the Revo software a shot. Thanks again
plfroxio
Well I give up on trying to use this CRAP software. I have spent countless hours trying to install Creator Pro 2011 without success. I've been patient, trying everything you guys told me to try. I write software for a living and never have I seen such a poorly written installer (and even worse de-installer). I've been a Roxio customer since 2004 but my attempt to use it for video editing has put a stop to that. Thanks for a ton of wasted time.
sknis
Did you try the Revo Uninistaller? That one worked for me and other who have had the issue you are having. I think only 2 people complained that it did not work. Make sure you uninstall Creator and (I can't remember) if the extras are a separate install listed in Revo using the Moderate mode and agree to remove the registry entries and left over folders. Are you willing to try or should we close this thread?
