Web Video Capture And Conversion

Catman77

Question

I'm currently looking for software which will help me to easily download videos off of the web (usually .flv) and then convert to .avi (or whatever). It appears from the description that Toast might do both of these things, but without having a Trial / demo to see for myself I'm hesitant to buy.

I like toast for the other features, which are more obvious, but the web video capture and conversion are a necessity at the moment, and I'm trying to choose between a more dedicated capture / converter such as iSkysoft iMedia Converter Deluxe and Toast 11 to provide this need.

Thanks for any help.

I've used it to capture some .flv videos and it worked well. You might need to have Perian installed (www.perian.org). You can buy Toast as a download from Roxio and it comes with a 30-day refund policy. So you can use that period to try it out and still get a refund if you aren't happy with its performance.

Thanks! Once downloaded, can it convert the .flv or .mp4 files to .avi?

.avi is a container and not a format just as .mov is a container used for QuickTime. Toast can convert to a large number of formats (both via presets and custom settings). However, none of them will have an .avi extension. There should be plenty of options playable by whatever device you're using to play .avi files (typically created on PCs rather than Macs).
