Emc 10 Capture Video

Brad Mills

Question

OK...I have to say I’m very frustrated. AND please forgive me for not being overly specific in some areas as I have been trying to solve my problem for 2 1/2 days and just can’t recall exactly which forum or which web site suggested which fix or solution.

That being said, I generally try to do as much searching of the forums and google before reaching out and posting questions, but this has just got me stumped and PO’ed.

All of a sudden my Easy Media Creator 10 will capture video (sometimes it will not load all of the buttons and sometimes it just does weird things like start and then lock-up), but overall the video that is saved will not import to Videowave. When I hit, “Add video/photo” I notice a red international “No” symbol appears over the video. If I use, “Import/capture”, again sometimes weird things happening, but overall I still get a video that ends up with the international “NO” symbol, and when I hit import/capture video an error message indicating that, “One or more of the files you are trying to add cannot be edited, and have not been added”.

So far, I have done the upgraded from 1.0.044 to 10.1.226 as well as updating the ”Contents” portion. This did not work, so I have since done a clean install of the original EMC 10, along with the “contents” portion. This did not work. I then uninstalled EMC 10 along with the “contents” portion, AND every program that I have installed since EMC 10 worked fine in January 2011.

I then reinstalled EMC 10 and now I’m getting a message that Capture Video unexpectedly stopped working. What do I need to do so that my EMC 10 will import a video that I can actually use. I also did one suggestion where I import the video to Window Movie Maker then export it out as a DV AVI. Still did not work.

By the way, my system specs are: emachine, Vista Home Premium, SP2, AMD Athlon 64 Processor 4000+ 2.60 GHz, 1.00 GB RAM, 32 bit OS.

Are you using an anti-virus that also has a registry cleaner or are you using any program that cleans your registry. Many times, sudden changes in the program are related to a registry item being removed.

When you say "clean install" do you mean that you followed the full instructions and cleaned the registry as described? Perhaps you missed something or had your anti-virus active. Which one are you using?.

My suggestion only. Download REVO Uninstaller from cnet.com. It is free. Run that in the MODERATE mode. It will use the EMC 10 built in uninstaller and then clean your registry of all the Roxio folders that are safe to remove. There are a lot of entries so don't panic . Prepare/update you computer like this. Don't skip any steps (like updating your video card since the original drivers may have become corrupt). Turn off your anti-virus and reinstall.

Note: Pausing your anti-virus seems not to work so off is best. One person had a similar problem so the person removed the anti-virus, followed the directions above and then reinstall the anti-virus.

One more question, did you install any codec packs or other programs that would have a codec pack? Sometimes they supersede the ones from Roxio

Thanks for taking the time to assist. I will post when/if fixed so the info is shared.

I now have it working. Not sure which portion was the most responsible for the error. I looked in Problem Reports and Solutions and noticed two errors that pointed me at haal.media splitter (matroskaspliter) and ac3filter.ax. Did some research and it is a codec that deals with the processing of AVI in media player. I uninstalled it the hall.media splitter and ran mats_run.codec.exe which fixed the ac3filter. ax issue. I hope this make some sense to anyone that is having the same or similar issue.
