I have an 11.74 GB .mkv file that I am converting to .mov using Roxio Popcorn 4. It is running on a 2011 Macbook Pro, latest OS X software with 8GB of RAM. The computer has more than enough space on the hard drive, specifically 185gb.
The problem? Well, other than the fact that the conversion started over six days ago and is only at 39%, it's all good. Sort of. My computer is running warm and the fans are always very audible, to the point where I have to wear earplugs to sleep at night - the laptop is sitting on my desk, four feet away from my bed. I'm worried the conversion is going to poof the laptop's fans before it's even finished.
My question? Why is this taking so unimaginably long? Surely it shouldn't be like this, because at this rate it'll take a month!
I've converted other mkv files before (including a 1080p version of "Avatar", which when converted to .mov was a whopping 84gb, but even that only took a day or so).
