S-Video Will Not Work

TahoeTommy

Question

I can transfer fine using RCA cables, but when I use the s-video connection, I cannot see the movie playing (audio is fine). What I do see is a blue screen with the name of the maker of the VHS player. any ideas? Also, do you think the level of quality will be much different using s-video than composite? Do you think it matters what kind of tape input, like VHS vs SVHS?

Just got “Easy VHS to DVD Capture” a few days ago...

Have already successfully captured and burned a few old VHS-Movies,

using the Composite(RCA) Input connection.

Using the S-Video Input playing a VHS, I have the same issue like “TahoeTommy”...

seeing the blue “DVD Video-Logo” still image... but sound is playing...

(seeing the DVD-Logo while playing VHS, there must be something...?)

Using the S-Video Input playing a DVD, capture works perfectly.

(using a Panasonic NV-VP32, which has both, a VHS and a DVD player)

Looks like “Composite: is for capturing VHS, “S-Video” for capturing DVD...?

Nolan

Correct, S-Video is only for DVD output, page 8 in the manual.

I was referring to page 8 in your Panasonic NV-VP32 manual.

I presume you selected S-video in the application. It should work. You might try unplugging the device from the USB port and plugging it back in. As for quality, if the source was recorded as Super-VHS on SVHS tape then there should be a real difference. Otherwise, not so much.

Yes, I chose "S-video. What is totally weird is that there must be a signal, as I am seeing a blue screen with the "title" page youi see when you turn on the VHS player ("Go Video"). When I hit "continue," I hear the sound but none of the film. I have plugged in, out, prior to app, after app, etc. I saw one of your other posts about reinstalling software, which I will try tonight. Thanks for your reply!

Have you confirmed that connecting the S-video cable from the VCR to the TV does provide the video? I share your bewilderment that a signal is seen at the start but doesn't refresh when recording.
