Result Code = -43

dumpsterdiver

Question

I just got toast 11 for my Mac. Every time I drag and drop files and then try to burn I get the message: Could not record the disk because a file couldn't be found. Result code = -43. Tech support is running out of ideas and I have a program I cannot use. Anyone else had this problem and fixed it? Thanks!

Is this in the Data window? What settings are you using? What kind of files?

I have tried many settings. I can copy a disk and burn it, that works. The files I am trying to burn are photoshop images and Word documents (I am an artist and need to send CD's of my work). I did have Toast 8 and this issue started suddenly so I thought by upgrading to 11 the problem would get fixed. It didn't. I repaired disk permissions and got the up dates for 11. The burner shows up in the toast window as do all of the images I want to burn. The second I press the burn button I get that message. I am not sure what to try next. Thanks!

I just tried an external burner with the same results. Sigh.

Since this happened with Toast 8 as well did the Roxio support folks instruct you to trash the Toast plist and prefs files in the User>Library>Preferences folder and relaunch Toast? If not, that's a good first step.

I will try that! It does sound like a good first step. Thanks!

Deleting the Toast plist and pref files did not fix it. I also deleted the toast cache too. I called up the console and saw that every time I tried toast two messages come up.

I guess that the answer is in there. I just do not understand it. Thanks!

Interesting. I just checked my console log and have the identical message each time I launch Toast 11. But I'm not having the problem you're experiencing. I did find this information on Apple's support site. Be sure none of the following characters are in the file name:

? [ ] / \ = + < > ; : " , | *

You've repaired permissions but have you run the disk repair in Disk Utility? I have DiskWarrior which has fixed many issues for me that Disk Utility has missed. My thinking is that the issue is on your Mac.

I'm going to do more checking about the message appearing in the log and I will inform Roxio about it as well.

But I still wonder what Result = -43 means. The tech support never answered that and I have not been able to find any reference to it.

If you Google for "error code 43" without the minus you'll get a number of results. It means the file is not found. But the reason can be something unrelated to whether the file can be found by you. I didn't find much that seemed to be similar to what you're encountering.

It took awhile but I was able to finally run Disk Warrior on my mac. And that fixed the issue I was having with toast. Seems my HD was 33% messed up. Thanks tsantee for that advise!

Glad to hear you've got it all working. DiskWarrior has saved me several times.
