Question

Hi guys

I have a DVD/VHS combi player that can record VHS onto DVD's, the only problem is that it doesnt finalise them!

The guy I bought it off said that he used Nero to finalise them, I have a mac with Toast pro 10.

Can I do it in this programme??

Any ideas would be highly appreciated. If it cant is there a programme you know of that can?

Are you asking if Toast Pro 10 can do it or if EMC 10 can do it? If Toast 10 then you are in the wrong forum and we can move your post.

hi, yeah im asking whether Toast Pro 10 can do it or not?

The answer is no, Toast cannot finalize or read DVDs recorded in the video mode on standalone recorders. It can extract video from unfinalized DVDs recorded in the VR mode (those are written to rewritable discs). I'm surprised a DVD recorder can't finalize a DVD it recorded.

If your recorder has the ability to record in VR mode to RW discs, do that instead. Don't worry about finalizing. Insert the burned disc in your Mac and launch Toast. Choose DVD in the Toast Media Browser (it is a separate window from the main Toast window -- if you don't see it choose Show Media Browser from the Windows menu). Double-click on what appears in the browser window and drag your recordings from the browser to the main Toast window (either the Video window or the Convert window). Toast then will extract the video from the disc. When that is done you can eject the disc and proceed with what you want Toast to do with the video.

I see I made an error in the first sentence of my post. Toast cannot finalize or read unfinalized DVDs from standalone recorders. Of course it can read the finalized ones. Hope the VR mode works for you.
