Converting Vob To Mp4

STRSPROD

Question

I'm hoping somebody can help me out. I'm new to Toast and I've had pretty good luck with it thus far. However, I have a project I'm working on for a customer that doesn't seem to be working. They gave me footage on a mini-dvd to use and when trying to convert the vob files to mp4 so I could use it in FCE or iMovie, it is only recognizing 26 seconds out of a 28 minute video.

I feel like I've tried everything. I've tried using different formats (dv, mov, and flv), and still no luck. I even copied the video to a full size dvd, and I still have the same problem. The video is recognizable in the editing window where I can watch it all the way through. When try to even take segments of the video, it still just gives me the same 26 seconds of video. Are there settings cached somewhere that I'm not aware of? Any help I could get is appreciated.

Thank you.

This is probably due to some time code breaks on the source DVD. The first thing I'd try is to use the Toast Media Browser to extract the video from the DVD. Insert the DVD and choose Video Files as the format in the Toast Convert window. Now choose the Video tab in the Media Browser and scroll down to where you see DVD. Select the video that shows up under DVD in the browser and add it to the main Toast window.

You will get another window that lets you select all or portions of the video. Presuming you want it all just click okay. The video now will appear in the main Toast window. Click the Save button to continue the conversion to .mp4 (I suggest the AppleTV preset).

If that doesn't work then you'll need to use MPEG Streamclip to repair the time code breaks. Let me know if that is the case and I'll provide those instructions.
