Cropping In 2011

JoeT

Question

I most often crop photos so that they will fit my screen exactly when done. Problem is, about half the time I select crop I can actually see the dimensions changing as I crop at the bottom of the page, the other half of the time I can't. I have to guess, then save before I can see the new dimensions of my photo. Then do it again, and again, and again. How do I insure that I can always see the dimensions change as I am cropping. I feel certain I am not doing anything different one time to the next, but it is the luck of the draw if I will be able to actually see what I am doing to the size of the photo.

Try going up to the Menu Bar and clicking on Tools and then on Edit Canvas. Custom Size should be highlighted by default. Don't change anything but click OK. The image's dimensions should reappear at the bottom of the screen.

I think this happens when a size other than Custom (one of the presets) is chosen in the Crop dialog and it has to be reset so it knows that you want to custom size the image. For some reason the Crop dialog Reset button doesn't also reset the size display.
