Your Recording Device Does Not Support....

cynlee

Question

I am trying to copy a chorus competition video, non-commercial for family. This software was recommended by Staples. When trying to burn dvd I get error msg "Your recording device does not support writing to DVD media. This option isnot available with our current recorder." I may be missing some steps or is there something else I need to do? Thanks.

That message tells you that you do not have a DVD burner.

Please list the make/model of the burner you are trying to use.

The obvious question is, do you have a DVD burner, or does it just read DVDs?

The message is saying that you do not have a DVD Burner!

Without that, no software in the world can make it burn

Look under Tools/Disc Info in the Software and tell us what it says about the drive???

Drive = HL-DT-ST-CD-RW GCE-8483B, Firmware Revision = B105, Supported Media CD-Rom, CD-R, CD-RW

Should I return my DVD+R & exchange for DVD-R? THX.

It has nothing to do with the type of DVDs you have. Your burner cannot burn DVDs. In fact it cannot even read DVDs.

You need to get a DVD burner.

Okay. Just read a review of Samsung SH-S223Q external for $31. What do you think? Any recommendations?

The GCE-8483B is a standard-sized burner, not a laptop one.

Go for an internal burner as Jim recommended.

Thank you. Cannot locate this product except as "refurbished". Is refurbished acceptable or not?

GCE-8438B was recommended by Brandon for my Dell Dimension 4600. Also according to Dell I need an IDE, not SATA. This is all Greek to me!

I don't think Brendon recommended the "GCE-8438B" since that is the burner you already have in your system according to your post.

I believe he meant you should get an internal burner. Perhaps you should go to a computer store and have them install an internal burner for you.
