Videowave Editor No Longer Works

user10

Question

I originally had creater 11 loaded pon the c drive of my computer. As I only had 20 gb left over videowave ran very slowly. I uninstalled/reinstalled to my other drive which has many more GB availible. Now When I try to edit a movie in videowave. The editer starts but the preview stays blank and wont load the movie. Do I have to uninstall again?

Ye, You need to install it on your system drive. You have to clean up your "c" drive and reinstall the program there. There are parts of the program that look for dll and other on the system drive. not on the other drive where the program is. Yiu can use the options in the program to select where the working and temp files are stored.

Try using Revo Uninstaller (free download from cnet.com) in the Moderate mode to get rid of all those old programs you never use on your system drive.

Move all the movies, music, etc to that other drive.

Do you have a RAID array? If you don't know what that means, you don't have one.

Ok, I uninstalled/reinstalled back onto the c drive. It'll open some files to edit but not others. I can watch any videos in "videowave" and even use "pan and zoom" editor ok. But I still can't edit all files. Some open, others don't. When I first installed it creater worked very well. But over time, I started to get little glitches. Starting to run slowly, freezing etc. It almost seems that something else is conflicting. I have installed sp1. Does repair work well? Or should I just reinstall.

What is the format of the files that you cannot edit? Where did you get them?

Yes, the repair works quite well. There are some steps to take for better results. Most of these relate to update your computer and making sure your anti-virus is OFF; not just paused. Here (link) is what you should do before doing the repair. Note: I usually say do all the steps and don't skip anyhting but the burner firmawre update is probly one you can skip.

If that doesn't fix the issue, come back and I'll give you my suggestions for an alternate.

Other things you should do. Whne using Video Wave and particularily after doing a lot of editing, periodically clean the proxy files - Tools-Options- Clear proxy file. These are temporary files that build up over time but should be automatically deleted whan you reboot.

Download and run CCleaner to clean up your temporary files. Do not use the registry cleaner part of that.

Defrag using either Auslogics Defragmenter or Smart Defrag periodically.

All the above are free and available from the cnet.com downloads.

Well I tried all these things. Nothing changed. Only AVI files open, sort of, and edit. I had created other files back when it still worked, and saved them in mpeg-2. Now creater won't open them any more. I converted them to AVI, using another program. Now they open and will play. But aren't stable.

Converting avi files to mpeg and then back to avi is pointless, all you get is a loss of quality. What does "aren't stable" mean? They either play correctly or they don't.

I think you main problem is the lack of free space on your system drive. How big is that hard drive? With that little free space you almost have to do a defrag every few hours when doing any kind of video work.

Where did you get these avi files?

I have 30gb free on the system drive. I have the working files over on the other drive where I have 140 gb free. I only converted the files to find out what, if any files would run. They don't run properly. Creater freezes up frequently. But at least they run for a short while. MPEG don't run at all. Originally the files came from old tv shows or movies. I like to make short clips of the parts I enjoy. The longest of the clips is about 500 mb. The movie would run aprox 2gb

Are there any articles listing what registry entries Creater uses so I can exclude them in my registry cleaner?

Do you want to create a DVD from those clips?

File size really means nothing when talking about video. The same 1 hour video file could be from a a few hundred mb to to 14Gb depending on the format of the video file.

How did you get the video on your hard drive, ie, how did to capture them?

Do the clips also stutter when you play them with a software player such as WMP or VLC?

I have another video editerIt runs fine. Since the program worked perfectly when I first installed it. I think I must have have a conflick someplace. I guess this is the time to get that 1 tb hard drive I've been eying. Reinstall windows and creater and test carefully each time I add something. Thanks for all your help. This is a great program.

Well I think I found the problem. I replaced the hard drive and reloaded windows etc. Creator worked fine untill I upgraded to Internet Explorer 9. Then the problem came back. Ie. In Videowave I can load a file and play it. But if I start the editor, it wont play or allow me to edit. I did a restore that took me back to IE 8. Problem fixed. So there must be a conflict somehow between the two programs.

I have Creator 2011 and another video editing program on my computer and run IE9 with ALL the updates and Chrome and do not have any conflicts. Perhaps if you look further?

BTW, I like IE8 better.

I installed programs and updates 1 at a time, creating a restore point each time. I would then start creator and test. Then go on to the next. Everything was fine untill I installed IE 9. At which point Creator failed. I restored back to ie 8 and everything was fine. I updated to IE 9 tha last time before it failed. I did find one other program that would cause failure, I installed a HP web printing program for IE 8. The failure was different however. Now every time I attempted to start a project, I would get an error message stating that the files weren't valid. These were files created by Creator before I updated to IE 9 before. To fix I just rolled back windows to the previous restore point. I think that it's pretty conclusive that there is a problem somewhere between IE 9 and Creator. It might be a certan driver or whatever but it's there.
