Cineplayer 2.3.1 Cannot Uninstall/install

Question

I am trying to install Cineplayer 2.3.1 on a military machine. The software installation package works fine on other systems in the same domain.

 

When I try to install it I get the error message "system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation".

 

From experience I know that means there is something in the registry that is preventing it from installing.

 

I have gone through the registry and tried to find it but have been unable to.

When I try to uninstall it, the program says "this action is only valid for products that are currently installed"

 

The program does not show up in add/remove programs. I have searched the registry for SONIC and ROXIO and cleared everything I could see that looked valid.

 

Can Roxio support provide the necessary registry keys so I can manually remove Cineplayer 2.3.1 please?

You should see your System Administrator. This is something he/she has set in that machine, and I would be very reluctant to do anything which overrides system security policies or protections in a Military machine. There could be HUGE consequences, for me as well as for you.

It appears that the program did not install, as you complained above. In that case there is no need to uninstall it.

Thanks for the reply!.

 

I am workiing with system administrator rights. I get this message with other applications such as Adobe Acrobat Professional 8. When I get that message with Adobe Pro 8 I have learned (thanks to the helpful folks at Adobe who provided me with the list of registry keys to remove rather than a list of assumptions and chiding) to simply remove these keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Features\68AB67CA330100007706000000000030

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\ UserData\S-1-5-18\Products\68AB67CA330100007706000000000030

 

and then I am able to install the program.

 

This has also worked with other applications. In all of those I have been able to search the registry for keys related to the program and remove the ones from the Installer and Uninstall sections. I have not been able to do that with Cineplayer, hence this request for information.

 

So, again, if anyone knows the registry entries for Cineplayer that would really be helpful!

If Cineplayer did not install, there is no need to uninstall it.

Thank you again for your reply. I will try to explain again: I AM a system administrator and a tech support for the domain. The error message is a common one that we get when trying to uninstall software that has registry keys in the various install/uninstall paths. We get the same error with Acrobat Pro 8 and a few other applications sometimes. The solution for all of those is to go into the registry, and remove keys from the install/uninstall paths. Acrobat, TechSmith, Appligent, and other companies were immediately helpful and provided the information I requested. I assumed I could get the same quality of assistance here.

 

Cineplayer is a core app on one of our system builds - users cannot watch DVD's on their computers without it. I have the installation software and and I have tested the same installation files on other systems with the same build with no errors. I have also gone through the install/uninstall registry paths looking for entries with Cineplayer and Roxio, taking care to back up the registry, of course.

 

I understand that 'if cineplayer did not install, there is no need to uninstall it' but whenever anyone (including our automatic software distribution program which uses SYSTEM rights) tries to install it we get the error message. That is why it was escalated to me. I spent several hours trying to figure it out on my own but was unsuccessful. Hence this post.

 

I will politely ask again and pray that someone can help me otherwise my only other option is to re-image the machine:

"What are the registry keys needed to manually remove Cineplayer 2.3.1, please?"

I'm sorry J.O.S., I thought from what you were saying that you were just a military ranker who was trying to install one copy of Cineplayer on many machines in defiance of the Military's computer policies. I apologize for my mistake.

 

If you are a tech support person handling licensed Sonic software on multiple machines for the Military, you should speak to the Company's Volume Licensing people. They will be glad to get alongside you and help you with these problems. They can be contacted through this page.
