zinck
I had been using Roxio Creator 2009 just fine last year. I used it to make a few videos. Recently I had to reinstall Windows XP on my machine and thus had to reinstall all of my programs. Now Roxio Creator 2009 will not work at all. I don't know if I made a mistake updating it with the SP3? I don't know what to do. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling again but to no avail. I get an error message every time I try to open it. The Application programs seem to work fine: MyDVD, Creator Classic, etc. Will one of these programs work to simply copy a DVD or CD? I am very frustrated. I have spent two or three hours working on this today and did not get anywhere. I'd appreciate any help you can give me!!

Please clarify; you said that it won't work at all then you say that you can use MyDVD and Creator Classic. What doesn't work? What does tells us what is availbe for you to use to copy a non-protected disc. Can you open Video Copy and Convert? No SP3 isn't a problem. You may have missed this butRoxio has an uninstaller (unofficial) for Creator 2009. Use it to remove the program, shut down your anti-virus and reinstall the program. Don't use a Registry Cleaner. Sorry to not explain it well. When I installed the program an icon went to my desktop that says Roxio Creator 2009. When I click on it a red box with Roxio in it appears for about a second. Then I get the error message asking me if I want to send a report in to Microsoft and make Roxio Creator better. Yes, Video Copy and Convert seems to work. Do you have a solution for the problem with Roxio Creator 2009 without having to remove the program and reinstall? Thank you!

zinck
Can you start the applications from Windows / Start/ Programs / Roxio Creator 2009 / Applications? Through the APPLICATIONS I can start Roxio Creator Classic. Is that the same thing as Roxio Creator 2009? All of the programs seem to open up and work just fine going through Applications. BUT the icon with the STAR for Creator 2009 will not work. I need to copy a CD and also a DVD. Both are data not songs or movies. How can I do this quickly and easily with Roxio? Thank you once more for helping me with this!!!

zinck
Since you state that you can start Creator Classic, use it to burn your data CDs and DVDs. I still have TWO problems. 1. When I installed the program a Star icon went to my desktop that says Roxio Creator 2009. When I click on it a red box with Roxio in it appears for about a second. Then I get the error message asking me if I want to send a report in to Microsoft and make Roxio Creator better. Can this not be fixed? 2. I can go to my start menu - Roxio - Applications - and then start Creator Classic 2009. But where is the option in this program simply to copy an existing DVD or CD? Sorry to be such a novice. And I appreciate the help! :D :D

And I appreciate the help! :D :D I'm going to assume that you had your anti-virus running when you installed the program or that you are now using a registry cleaner perhaps as part of your anti-virus. Either one of those will either screw up the installation of the program. I'm also assuming that you are not using Windows 7. Windows 7 will not allow the full use of the program. Some people state that they can get some things to work for some length of time. 1) Remove Creator 2009 using these instructions. 2) Update your computer using these instructions. 3) Keep that anti-virus OFF; not just paused. Shut down or disable and never use any registry cleaners. Registry Cleaners are good for people who sell them and no one else. 4) Reinstall the program. Reboot, let us know if you have the Home screen now.

I couldn't start Roxio Creator from the desktop icon with the same message you received, but I could start most of the applications from the Applications folder. I was going through the applications when I received a notice that an update for Roxio Creator was available - Service Pack 4. After installing the update to SP4 I was able to start Roxio from the desktop icon. I don't know if this would help your situation but it definitely fixed my problem. There should be nothing in the service packs that would have effected the home screen but stranger things have happened. To Zinch; If you didn't get the updates to Creator 2009 by opening the program, the Service Pack is here (link).
