Video Import In Smart Screen

hotovost

Question

After clicking Scan tape tyhe program creates new scene's, the media scanns to the end of tape. After selecting thumbnails of the scenes that I want to import and click capture now to record the selected screens, media imports start capturing the selected screens. The import never compleets and keeps capturing to the end of the tape. no thumbnails representing captured video files appear in the import Bin.

I cannot duplicate your results???

I scan a tape:

I pick 3 Scenes to Capture:

I get those 3 Scenes and you can see it stopped (purple arrows) at the next detected Scene...

How about some details about your OS, your camcorder etc. (Win7 will probably need to run in 1394 Legacy mode)

Has it ever worked for you?

Thank you for your reply. I noticed that you are using NORMAL SCAN. I have no problem in the normal scan mode. The above listed problem only exists when I try to use the "SMART SCAN".

Don't you see that Jim has selected "Smart Scan"? Why do you say he is using Normal Scan?

Actually there is no such thing as "Normal Scan"... ;)

It is Normal or it is Smart Scan.

With 'Normal', there is NO scan whatsoever. You just Capture All, Time or Manually.

It is also hardware dependant!

Now how about the answers to the quesions I asked?

Yes, OS = Operating System: post-39730-063130500 1310208461.jpg

Sounds like a nice PC ;)

There is a pinned post at the top of this forum ("FireWire camcorder not recognized") which outlines checking Win7 and how to set the 1394 to Legacy.

While yours is already recognized, it still may require the 'Legacy' setting to work properly!

And it is possible that it may not work with your camcorder... I've been using FireWire capture even before Roxio got into it (2003) and I know many camcorders simply did not work properly with it :o But the last part you need to check out is the Win7 Legacy issue.

Even if it doesn't work, not a big deal... I have been at this since Roxio started to offer it and have yet to bother scanning for scenes... For my use, too many false scenes get detected and I prefer to capture all then split it up manually.

Dear Jim,

Thank you for your reply. The Legasy setting works properly and I have decided to take your

suggestion to use Normal Scan, and run into another problem. The program will capture the entire tape

and during the process the individual clips will start to show in the recently imported window. After the capture of the entire tape the individual clips will disapeer and change to one clip consisting of the entire tape, and will be saved to my videos on the hard drive. When I go to edit video-advance and click on

add photo/video, only one thumbnail appears, consisting of the entire tape. What am I douing wronh?

I don't think anything is wrong??? Been so long since I used tape, I will have to drag one out and try it today ;)

Check back later.

In Video Wave, look at the left and select "Show Media Selector" You should see some videos with little right arrows and others with right and down arrows, click on the down arrows.

Just a reminder that there is a little down arrow that shows the scenes if you click on it.

Watch this video. I think it will help.
