Mydvd And Videowave Hang

Mark Hicks

Question

Hi all

I am running 2011 Pro.

Every time I run MyDVD it gets so far through the process and then I get the following message "Videowave has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." Sometimes it just shuts itself down mid process with no error message at all.

I'm extremely confused. Roxio 10 worked beautifully!

I have:

Done a clean uninstall of 10 and 11 (including the registry)

Run it as an administrator as I saw elsewhere on this forum that this had worked for someone else.

My system:

Dell XPS XPS_420

Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2

Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40 Ghz 2.39 Ghz

2 GB of RAM

32 bit operating system

Please help! I've attached a screen shot of the error.

Thanks!

Please clarify the versions you have 'Roxio 10' would be EMC 10, 'Roxio 11' would be Creator 2009 (internal version numbers)

That being said, have you updated the graphics card in your computer? Creator 2011 uses that for rendering, so if you can tell us some computer specs, we can take it from there

That computer comes standard wiith a chipset (on board video ) Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT . Look here (link)

How much free space do you have on your hard drive? When did you last remove garbage and TMP and TEMP files and defragmnent?

Where did you get the file and what format is it. How long is the video?

Thanks for the comments. I have the Nvidea GE Force card as described and the drivers are up to date. There is about 100 GB free on my hard drive.

Specifically what is your Driver version, looking more for... 275.33 rather than ’up to date’

Sorry file format is an MPEG-2 obtained from a VR DVD which was then encoded to MPEG-2 by TMPEng It's a big file (7.9 GB) but it happens with other, much smaller AVI files imported from my camcorder.

WAY too many variables there!

Do a search on your PC for WMV files and use one of Windows Sample files. That way we know the quality of the file is not suspect ;)

Does it work with still pictures?

Does it allow you to drag them over from Explorer and drop them???

OK, first off, my driver is 8.17.12.7533 which looks like it tallies up with your number Jim.

Secondly, I ran a defrag that took about 12 hours (which I believe shows it needed doing!) and cleared out my temp files and recycle bin but I'm still getting the issue.

Thirdly, the file I described in this project is the way I generate my (home use only) Formula 1 DVDs. The error still occurs when I use the AVI files from my camcorder. Yes, I can add pictures from Explorer no problem.

This evening I was using Videowave and saved my project as normal. It had finished saving and I stepped away for dinner and when I came back, it had crashed. So it will crash whilst not even doing anything!

I notice that someone above has the comment "Trying to use IE 9 Beta will screw up your Creator applications !" Well,I'm running IE9 Version 9.0.8112.16421.

Could that have something to do with it?

"Trying to use IE 9 Beta will screw up your Creator applications !" N o IE 9 will not screw up the applications. Did you ever use the beta?

There'/s a difference of opinion on IE9 really. Some people find it doesn't cause a problem - others have had problems and uninstalled it (problem cleared).

Personally I use Firefox and won't take the 'critical updates' that Microsoft keep pushing.

The strange thing is that any Windows Update here when run first follows the EU directive and gives a browser choice - at the same time, it will also try to install IE9 (or 8 if you're on pre Windows 7)

The IE9 version you have is the same as mine and it does not cause ANY problems with Roxio!!! :o

I still contend your files are suspect… Why not take your file and pass it through Video Copy & Convert?

Change its’ output to something else, MP4 for example ;)

Also, let's try this...

Do the Prep Steps to the letter!

Then start the install of the Suite, only pick Repair when it is offered.

Updates to Roxio will have to be installed.

Perhaps the 2 pronged approach with get it going

Jim, let's not confuse things. There ARE a number of reported cases where removal of IE9 cured the problem so it's way too son to say it doesn't cause problems.

Let's narrow it down first - see if removal of IE9 fixes the problem

Mark: Just a thought, you said your original file is “VR”

That makes me think you are recording using a DVD Recorder???

If so, you could use a DVD+RW or make sure you Finalize a ‘dash’ disc to eliminate all those in-between steps…

A Finalized disc or ‘plus’ type can be directly imported into Roxio ;)
