Question

I have a Panasonic AVSHD high def video camera.

When I try to add video to a MyDVD project it says the video cannot be edited and it won't add it.

I upgraded to Roxio 2011 hoping this would work but I get the same message. I figured Roxio 11 could do everything including manage HD video. What am I missing? Anybody have this issue?

Re; AuthorScript Error is familiar and sporatic. Try doing your project this way.

Thanks for everyone's input. I actually found this post previously and had followed it without success. However, I was sceptical that defragging my hdd would make any difference, which you may have noticed in my last post. I am very happy to report that it DID make a difference, and I was able to burn the AVCHD project without any errors. So to summarize the 2 most important things I did which seemed to make a difference was Upgrading the Vista Codecs from Shark007, and Defragging the hard drive. I hope that anyone who has pretty much given up on Roxio, give it another try.

It is very seldom that a Roxio employee will come to these sites. There is free telephone support for Roxio's Flagship product - Creator 2011 Read this.

We are not convinced that the video card/chip is the issue but we have to eliminate one thing at a time.

Perhaps a work around will do. Download a free video converter from cnet.com (opt out of the item they want to push). and use that to convert the file to mpg2. or if you want to make an AVCHD or blu-ray disc, to HDmpg2. Use that in Video Wave to do edits or in MyDVD to burn to a disc. I like "Any Video Converter" but others will work. If you do use Any Video Converter, some of the drop downs are hidden so click to the right in the individual options. I just tried 'Any Video" and had not problems with the conversion or adding it to Edit Video -Advanced,

For some reason I could not get into my Upfordown account so I can't upload it for you. Perhaps someone else can. That would tell use something about either the computer or the software installation.

I uploaded it here (link)

I've used AVS conversion software and this works but it seems to degrade the quality and adds a lot of overhead to my process.

I did contact Roxio. They asked me to un-install creator 10 and creator 11 and re-install the 2011 version. No surprise here as this is always the answer. I followed this long and complex procedure and ended up in the same place.

I also installed new codecs without any luck.

I ended up getting a refund for Creator 11 and was considering buying Creator 12. I'm worried I will end up with the same issue.

Does anyone use any other software that is comparable to Roxio that you would recommend trying? I've used Roxio for years but I always end up in the same place eventually... something very important doesn't work.

SOLVED. I upgraded the windows Vista codec package from Shark, and low and behold, the files all now say frame rate is 29.97. They work without any freezing and the audio track is perfectly fine.

Now my problem is Encoding the edited ACVHD files in MyDVD, set for creating AVCHD disk. I tried using the 2 original videowave projects with and without menus and they failed with 8004520c Error while encoding Movie 1. I tried outputting the videowave projects to mp4 files and using these in MyDVD and they failed with: Failed to import media in AuthorScript. Error while Importing Media.

I had also outputted the original edited ACVHD files to DVD quality mpg files. I put these into MyDVD, set for creating DVD disk. This ran fine and completed properly.

So it seems that burning to AVCHD doesn't work. I'll try defragmenting my drive and see if that makes any difference. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks for your quick reply. You already have the clip from an earlier post 00000.mts. I downloaded this file and placed it in both my Vista computer and my XP computer. As I mentioned on my XP computer roxio 2011 recognizes it as the correct frame rate: 29.97 but the same file on Vista recognizes it as 59.94. There was no converting just copying the file from one computer to the other. Could there be some application software or codec that is in conflict with Roxio causing it to read the file incorrectly. The Panasonic software, as well as the media players recognize the clips accurately and play them normally with sound. Roxio Videowave reads it incorrectly, and freezes after a second or so, and doesn't recognized the audio. Again I emphasize,I did nothing to change the file in each computer.

Warren, I did a search and found a lot of people have problems with those oddball frame rates and sizes

It would be handy if you could post a 5 to 10 second sample of a troublesome clip you have on a site like UpForDown. Then we can take a firsthand look! ;)

I suspect conversion is one way to go, but it would probably be a lot better if you simply set the camcorder to a more civil output like 1920 X 1080 @ 15 fps… TRY IT!

As for the clips you already have… How are you converting and did you try HD mpeg instead?

I also have the same problem. I have a Panasonic HDC-TM700. I can capture the files from the camera to my computer as .mts files and play them with VLC., media player, etc. When I use Videowave or MyDVD

the file appears on the timeline, but the preview doesn't work unless I fiddle with the placement bar. Also the native sound track does not play any audio. If I convert the file to mp4 it works fine. However,

in creating a DVD with several videoclips the process fails after the movie encodes. The encode menus and write format fails. I originally installed creator 2011 on the same computer as creator 2010.When all these problems occurred, I uninstalled everything, followed your Prep and reinstall procedure, upgraded all the drivers, etc. Unfortunately, it didn't make one iota of difference. I was hoping to use Roxio for my AVCHD projects, but so far the software that came with the Panasonic video camera works better. I wonder how many others are having this problem.

After checking further, I've noticed that the frame rate on this computer shows 59.94 fps with a frame size of 1920 x 1088 pixels for all the mts files. If I take the same file without changing anything

and copy it to my other computer, where I have Roxio 2010 and Roxio 2011 installed, it shows a frame rate of 29.97 and frame size of 1920 x 1080. Furthermore the file plays perfectly normally in the preview, encodes and burns normally to an iso file, and DVD. The first computer where I am having the problems is using Vista operating system, and has Panasonic HD Writer installed. The 2nd computer is XP Pro without HD Writer. I don't know if this makes any difference, but I really don't understand the difference in frame rate on the 2 computers, when the identical file is placed on both.

Any help is appreciated. All my media is on the Vista computer and it is a much faster computer, so I would prefer getting it running properly rather than reverting to the slow XP.

Thanks

Thanks for everyone who has replied to this post.

If any of you are Roxio employees and can let me know if there is any other approach for resolving this I would appreciate it.

Seems like the last time I checked there was support if you paid but I can't recall if there was any guarantee that the issue would be fixed.

I am surprised the software is so connected to the display adapter and drivers. Roxio must have a lot of issues like this. I would consider actually changing adapters if I could be sure it would work.

It is a Dell XPS 420.

Looking at the Properties of the display card here is what it says...

ATI Radeon HD 3600 Series

Driver Provider: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.

Driver Date: 7/28/2011

Driver Version: 8.881.0.0

Thanks for responding.

Please let me know if there is anything else you can think of that I can try.

I did everything described in the 'Prep Steps' and also removed and re-installed the software with all startup programs and anti-virus disabled. Very frustrating. Maybe I need to get a new computer. :)

It's not the ATI Drivers, I'm running (below) and it works.

List your computer specs?

Please don't use madeup slang here, it is confusing... There is no such thing as "Creator 10" or "Creator 11" There was an EMC 10 several years ago...

What happens after doing the Prep and Repair I suggested???

Catalyst Software & Drivers are up to 11.8, HERE. Is that what you have installed?

Thanks, here are the specs.

Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit

4 GB Memory

Dell w/ Intel Core Quad CPU

Display adapter ATI Radion HD3600 Series

Message is

'Add movie Operation Failed'.

'Media file is not editable'.

FYI, I had this issue with creator 10. I upgraded to Creator 11 Pro hoping this would work. This was a new install done a few weeks ago.

Thanks
