Hello All and Thank You for your responses.

We purchased 2011 Pro but found this had the same fault, so sent it back.

We were offered a discount 2012 Pro, which we purchased, and, no fault, the programme runs flawlessly.

This would indicate that the guys and girls at Roxio know there is a fault and also have the solutions.

Knowing that a percentrage of users, like us, will move on and update if they leave the bugs in, that is their practise.

It worked, we bought new, and, no fault.

While we are not happy about this it is still the best programme around in its field and great value for money, I think we perhaps underestimate or forget that.

Thank You all again.

Andy

Problem solved by working with tech support. turned out to be IE9. I guess when MS forces windows 7 to IE9 like the threat is, We'll all have to upgrade. Thanks for all the suggestions and help. I've been using Roxio for about 10 years myself, for the money Videowave is a great product, just a little stubborn getting it going sometimes on a new install.

Thanks you for confirming what I said in my earlier post ! rolleyes.gifblink.giftongue.gif I did learn that via personal experience ! wink.gif

While I might agree that, 'if it is there, it should work'... I have yet to find much use for the trimmer in the 9 some years I have been using this... There isn't even a 'Trimmer' in most of the competition

But in the end it is not in the software but rather in the user's PC

Were it a 'software issue' more than just a scattered few would have the problem!

If you would like to pursue this, please start a New Topic and list your PC specs like you see most of us do in our signature block. Be specific on your video card - driver and software version ;)

I have been working with roxio support to try and solve the same issue with video trimmer window being black and not working. Although they have been working with me to try and resolve, we have'nt made any progress. I realize the cut and delete method works in a pinch, I figured I paid for the trim feature and I expect it to work. I shouldn't have to buy new software when the old software is supposed to work with my system and operating system per the minimum requirements set by Roxio. We as users need to hold their feet to the fire till they fix or upgrade us for no cost to something that works. I don't buy into the philosophy of a work around just because the manufacturer can't make their product work. I'll let you know how my case finally get's handled or what software I change to when they give up on me, which ever happens first.

Are you running IE9? A lot of people have issues when running that browser. The minimum requirements are for IE 7 or IE 8. There are no guarantees if you use IE9.

The split and delete method is NOT a work around. Many experienced users who don't want a easy but less effective way, use that exclusively. I never us the trim feature except in specific cases when I want to delete a frame or two and even then, a slight adjustment to a transitioon will hide those frames.

Thank You!!! LOVE the split and cut method!!! I had never considered this, as I usually start out in the storyboard screen (which doesn't offer this command) instead of the timeline view, and your video was very helpful.

I am new to this forum and was reading this thread looking for a solution to my problem, which seems to be similar. I have an old version of software (Roxio Easy Media Creator 10) which I occasionally use for specific tasks. (...don't use it as much now that I have to handle AVCHD files on my new camera...) My copy of Easy Media Creator 10 worked fine last year, but the video trimmer window suddenly stopped working (Nov 2011). The large screen in the middle is black (although the thumbnails for the start point and end point showed OK), and the commands within the trim window (play button, set start, set end, etc.) don't work anymore. Thinking there was a software conflict on my computer with recently installed competitor video editing software, I installed the Roxio product on a new laptop, and the trim window has the same problem. My best guess is that an automatic Windows update or Internet Explorer update or other automatic update (McAfee virus scan, etc., etc.) makes this old software obsolete. Not worth wasting any more time on it. I've given up on fixing the problem, especially since your "split and cut" method works just as well. There are other bugs in my old Roxio software, but I've learned to manage them along with this bug. Thanks again!!

It doesn't. What kind of file are you trying to add?

That happens with a lot of people but there is no definitive reason why it happens. It has been associated with IE9, with a poor install, with the video card, with an update and other things but it is not consistent.

Don't use trim, use the split and delete method.

The only thing the trim does that the split and cut method doesn't do is to remove less than 10 frames from the beginning of the video file. You can delete more frames (remember approx 30 frames per second or you can hide some frames by using a transition.

If you are not familiar with the split and delete method, watch this.

As for stretched vs unstretched - are you working with standard definitiion files or high definition files. If HD make sure you select 16 by 9 when you start a new project.

Change your font settings to 100 % -96 dpi.

It is frustrating that you keep repeating yourself and can't follow simple directions on how to add a screen shot to this forum. IT sort of make s me wonder if this is an operator issue. Please take time to thoroughly read the replies and to respond to each question. Watch the video ! There is no need to repeat yourself;; we all read English.

We have purchased a new high specification H P Computer, Windows 7 Ultimate, but still no success with Videowave, we have also purchased a new Roxio Creator 2011 Pro DVD, but all without success, the Videowave fault still persists.

We have followed advice but without success. Videowave Trimmer still shows as a black screen when an MPEG2 clip is selected. We went to System and selected update software, the response was, `your software is latest version`. We downloaded the Trimmer patch to the desktop and ran this, Videowave Trimmer still showed as a black screen when an MPEG2 clip is selected. We then went to Regedit and selected Roxio\Mediaframework\Utils, and noted that DWORD value AllowVMR was Zero. We noted that this was 32 bit, and did this again with 64 bit, but without success. Any ideas appreciated.

We have updated Microsoft X :

http://kb.roxio.com/...S=set-locale=en

Our Graphics card driver is up to date.

We have switched Render mode in Videowave to Software.

We then attempted to resolve the issue manually.

Manually Create "AllowVMR" Registry Key

We will here attempt again then to attach a screen shot of the videowave screen which shows as bcak, and does not operate, though we do note that the small trim wheels do.

We will select Browse, The File, Attach This File, PDF SCreen Shot, DXDIAG File, Add Reply, we`ll see if it works this time!

Hello, Thank You for your response. We upgraded our computer to new H P high spec, and also purchased new Roxio Creator Pro 2011, DVD. We still though have the one remaining fault with Roxio Videowave, that being the failure of the Trim screen, which remains black. We have tested and have found that the Trim Screen shows Black and does not work on MPEG2, though works OK on MPEG4. We also note that the small Trim wheels do work, and the video can be trimmed in that way however, you can immagine the work involved editing a video that way. Any ideas appreciated. Screen shot attached.

You keep repeating yourself but are not attaching any screenshots.

Hello again.

We realised in the end that our original HP computer though high spec really needing updating and we bought a new HP with Windows 7 Home and Business and installed our Windows 7 Ultimate.

The Videowave Preveiw screen now shows correctly, and is no longer showing black white barred, we still though have a problem in that the Trim Preveiw screen does not work.

The programme is Creator 2011, any ideas would be appreciated.

PDF attached.

Hello Myguggi

Thank You for your reply and appologies for not getting back earlier.

We followed a suggestion and updated the Sound Card - which made no difference, and the Video card - which did.

We purchased a Radeon 4670 with HD capability, and that resolved the issue of the barred black white stretched VideoWave Preveiw Screen.

The remaining issue is that when selecting Trim on a MPEG2 Movie Clip the Trim Screen still shows as Black and does not operate, we would guess an encoder is having difficulty recognising MPEG2, though it shows as normal in the Preveiw Screen.

We have tested with WMV and AVI and the Trim Screen works.

Thank You again for your response and in respose to your question, we did install the Windows 7 Ulitimate over the XP Pro, which we noted moved all of the XP except the vital Operating System files, and Work files into a folder it labeled Windows Old, from where all but the extinct XP OS could be accessed.

Do not attach using 3rd party programs. Attach your screenshot jpg file directly using the "Click to attach files". Read this for instructions

When you switched from XP to W7 did you do the install on top of XP or is it a complete install of W7?
