Emc 7 Ver 7.1.1.189 Problems

dbrohm

Question

Out of the blue, DVD BUILDER, & VIDEO WAVE stopped working. Other apps in the suite, incl Creator Classic, work ok. When I start DVD builder or Video wave, the splash screen comes up, hangs a short time, goes away, and nothing else happens. PC does not lock up.

I tried system restore, to a point where it worked, no help. Uninstalled, cleaned up after it, rebooted, reinstalled. Same problem. Rest of PC is fine. Scanned for viruses and spyware, nothing found.

Running XP-Prof SP-2 all critical updates installed. No previous trouble with this software, nothing recently installed or changed on the system.

You could try to rebuild your Media Manager database ( instructions from lbissonette)

Try the following and see if that helps:

Removing the existing Media Manager database so it can be rebuilt

a. Close all open applications, especially Roxio applications

b. Open 'my computer'

c. Double click on the 'C:' drive and browse to 'C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Roxio' where 'USERNAME' is the name of the user you are currently logged in as.

d. Right click on the 'MediaManager' folder and choose rename

e. Call the folder 'MediaManager.old'

f. Now try

MANY THANKS, I think that did it. I say think because before I got your suggestion, I took my system back to 12/22/05 by restoring a Norton Ghost hard disk backup. But, I also recreated the media manager folder [as you suggested] because all this started while in the middle of creating a DVD project from captured videos. Anyway, back in business, thanks VERY MUCH

I had a similar problem after installing Zone Alarm on my computer. DVD builder simply would not open. I worked with the ZA people to no avail but finally I was able to find the EMC 7 update on the roxio site. After downloading and installing the update everything is working fine again.

I've have ZA and have never had a problem with it causing DVD Builder not to open.

I did - after installing ZA Internet Security Suite. The only way DVD builder would open was if I uninstalled ZA - ie, disabling ZA was not sufficient. ZA has great technical support, they worked with me for 3 days but all suggestions failed. I finally was able to find EMC 7's update which I had never downloaded in the 1-2 years I had been using EMC 7. Like I said, downloading it totally fixed the problem. Now ZA is running and I can use EMC DVD builder with no problem.

Have you scanned your system for spyware with two different programs like Lavasoft's AdAware SE and Spybot's Search and Destroy?

Yes, MS Antispyware for XP and Ad-Aware, PC is responsive, not slugish, all else, including Creator Classic working fine.
