Cineplayer 2012 And Blu-Ray

I noticed that Cineplayer 2012 doesn't have Blu-Ray play back support for commercial Blu-Ray disks.

 

To get around this short coming I installed the Blu-Ray plug in for Cineplayer 2011 and then the April 2011 update and life is now good. I don't know for how long.

There won't be (from what I've heard) a Blu-Ray playback plugin for 2012 but, as you found out, the one from Creator 2011 will install as a standalone app.

I'm looking at a possible upgrade from Roxio Creator 2009 to the 2012 version and am confused about the packaging. Both versions of 2012 claim to support Blu Ray on their web page if you go and look at the product descriptions. The Pro version adds the ability to burn Blu Rays and the standard version mentions Blu Ray, presumably playback only. There is also a "plug-in" version which costs $19.99. Looking at this thread, it makes me wonder what the real story is. If marketing has decided to drop Blu Ray support, they should not be misleading people by stating it is supported in Creator 2012. Dropping support for it seems counter intuitive. There are lots of Blu Rays out there and you don't have to buy them. Rental is an option or you might borrow them from a friend.

 

I'll be contacting Roxio to get the real story before deciding whether or not to upgrade.

Isn't it a wonderful and expensive format with all the DRM encryption key changes and updates that will never stop bringing the Blu-ray consortium $$...

Thanks for the reply. I realize that 2012 Pro has what they call "authoring" Blu Ray support, which I take to mean you can burn Blu Rays. What I don't understand is whether or not the Blu Ray support in either the standard or pro versions actually will play a Blu Ray movie disc. The starter of this thread said that neither will play what he described as "commercial" Blu Ray discs. I assume commercial means any Blu Ray that you might buy or rent.

That's the case unfortunately. So long as the studios keep changing the encryption system, all software (computer) playback systems will have problems.

 

Think back to the Sony Celine Dion CD that actually locked up the CD tray

That only happened on a MAC.

It happened on PCs as well Bruce but at least we could open the tray with a paperclip - the poor Mac users had to lug theirs to the service agents

Thanks, Daithi. Yes, that is what I remember them saying about the poor Mac users. I did not remember the problem being with the PCs, too.

Digital River R says - tuff - it's past 30 days - ARRGGHHHH!

Of course it's more than 30 days from original download - but what other softwatre isn't yours -PERMANENTLY!

 

How can I find a source for this file - I am registed and have receipts w/ DR and it shows on the Roxio registered prods - on line - dated june 4 2011 in DR.

 

Any help appreciated
