So, after battling with this issue for the better part of an entire day, I was able to find a solution and hope that by documenting it here someone else may solve this as well.
I recently upgraded a MacBook to OS X Lion (10.7.1) and purchased Toast Titanium (11.0.4) for the first time. All the features worked as advertised except as I burn the disc the window changes from the settings and customization window to the small "processing" and "encoding" window. However, as soon as the words read "encoding," the window would change back to the old settings and customization window (full-size again) with no error message or warning.
The fix was simply the installation of Perian 1.2.3. After this installation on the Lion machine (it had been previously installed in Leopard, I never upgraded to Snow Leopard, and it did not show up in Lion after the transfer) the disc burned without any issues. Problem solved.
Again, I hope this is of some use to another in the same predicament.
