Recording Choppy And Audio Terrible

oldshooter

Question

I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL DIFFERENT WAYS TO FIX THIS BUT CAN'T. I CAN PLAY AND HEAR A VIDEO FINE, BUT ONCE I CLICK ON "RECORD", THE PICTURE STARTS TO FLICKER (NOT A TRACKING PROBLEM) AND THE SOUND IS TERRIBLE. WHEN I STOP THE RECORDING, THE SCREEN TURNS BLUE AND CONTINUES TO INTERMITTENTLY FLICKER THE SAME AS THE VIDEO DID WHILE RECORDING. IF I TURN EVERYTHING OFF AND BACK ON, I CAN WATCH A VIDEO AGAIN BUT IT STARTS FLICKERING AND THE SOUND GOES BAD AGAIN ONCE I HIT THE "RECORD" BUTTON.

cd's recommendations are sound! Give that a try and let us know.

Also for your specs, I have no idea what a hp 1330n is, what is your sound card and video card?

I reading the post's about the ploblem with the video flicker and sound is terrible. How do you fix the problem. I do not understand. I call the support line at 1-877-793-7480 no response at all (that bull crap). Once again do anyone know how to solve the ploblem with easy step.

No one answers the phone or they don't respond to your question? Did you call during working hours (they re in California).

BTW, that telephone number is Roxio sales line who can't help with technical support.

I know it is frustrating but your best bet is to enter a support request here and make frequent checks of your span folder.

BTW, did you try all of these suggestions?

Are you seeing the flicker and bad audio on a disc or just in the preview area of the program? That preview area does not always give you the best play back since the files are not yet rendered to the final product.

I have had the same problems above. Video is choppy and sound doesnt match up. I have the Roxio VHS to DVD program. Called tech multiple times over the past 2 weeks. Did check this, check that, do you have this etc. I have tried different sets of cables, no extensions, no extra programs running, different VCR's, bought new cables just in case .......... still choppy. I am at a loss.

I have a HP Pavalion

Did you try any of the suggestions that are in the previous 13 post's ahead of yours.

Well, I tried Record Edit and Save and it worked. I burned 3 DVDs so far from 3 VHS tapes and they all copied fine. The only problem remaining is the sound is still garbaled. Any suggestions to improve this would be greatly appreciated as are the suggestions so far that corrected the jumping issue which was worked on by tech services for about 4 weeks without resolution. Thanks so much for your help and information. I really appreciate it.

Well, I followed all the recommendations you sent. Also, the application that worked before was Record DVD. After checking re all available updated drivers, I found that each one I checked I got the response that there were none available that was better than the one I have installed. I also checked device manager for DMA and found all 4 channels both primary and slave for each channel had DMA if Available in the transfer mode. I turned off the virus protection and disabled all functions under msconfig. I placed the disk in the Roxio disk in the drive and selected repair when asked. At the completion. I rebooted the system, turned on virus protection, and enabled all functions under msconfig. I tried opening Roxio and still am getting the message "Roxio Easy VHS to DVD has encountered a problem and needs to close". I ignored this message, placed a blank DVD+R 16X disk in the drive and placed a VHS tape in the VHS player and began recording. After about 20 seconds, the display began jumping and the sound was garbled. This is not continuous but occurs about every 10 - 20 seconds and lasts about 5 - 10 seconds. Finally, where do I find the sound and video card information you asked for earlier?

Thank you.

Try Record Edit and Save.

"Finally, where do I find the sound and video card information you asked for earlier?"

Jim Hardin asked that question and I posted a link to your PC specs, he hasn't responded.

Tech support has had me checking for updated drivers, reinstalling the program, try different DVDs, confirm that I had a Light Scribe drive and it was working, install updated drivers for the Light Scribe, was asked to try burning to an iso file or video-TS folder first and then burning that to a DVD (when I asked what this meant, I received no answer whatsoever), sent copies of DXdiag info, updated Microsoft DirectX, updated video and sound card drivers, I was emailed a link for a start up guide but it was for a different version than I have, I have version 201B23A. PC specs are:

HP Pavilion a1330n, Windows XP media center edition, version 2002 service pack 3, AMD 64 processor, 3800+, 2.39 GHz 1.93 GB Ram, (3) 2.0 USB ports.

The problem happens initially when I connect the USB device to the 2.0 USB port on the PC and open the Roxio program. I then get a message that Roxio has encountered a problem and must close. If I disregard this message, I can continue to try to burn a DVD from a VHS tape. The tape displaye fine until I start recording and then the display is jumpy and the sound is distorted. The same thing happened before I got the Roxio has encountered... message began appearing. When I first got the program and installed it, it worked fine. I then tried to burn the VHS tapes to Light Scribe DVDs and the problem started. When I went back to the original DVDs they no longer worked either.

What application worked before, Record DVD or Record Edit and Save?

Put the DVD install disc in a drive and run the repair option when offered.

Follow these steps before running the repair option.

Preparing your computer for installing Roxio products>> http://kb.roxio.com/search.aspx?URL=/content/000080GN

Your running XP if you failed writing a disc XP usually steps DMA down to PIO mode. You need to check that, a link to that information is #5 in my signature.

Thank you.

...and what has Tech Support had you doing during this time???

What are your PC Specs?

Where does this happen? (capture? - playback? - on the DVD; played where?)
