Can I Safely Uninstall Any/all Of The Divx Programs That Were Installed By Roxio Creator 2012?

Prime7

Question

I recently installed Roxio Creator 2012 on a Windows 7 computer and noticed that four DivX programs were installed with it (DivX Plus Codec Pack, DivX Plus Converter, DivX Plus Player, and DivX Plus Web Player). I try to minimize the number of programs I have installed on my computer and I don't have any interest in making/playing DivX video files. I am interested in Roxio Creator 2012 for the ability to make DVDs, edit photos, download web videos, and convert videos to MP4. Would it be safe to uninstall any/all of the DivX programs?

Hello,

I just uninstalled the DivX setup through the Programs and Features menu [Windows 7], and it has taken away all the DivX icons except the shortcut to the DivX movies folder.

You can delete both the shortcut and the folder, yourself.

Strangely enough, even though I uninstalled all four of the DivX Plus components, Video Copy & Convert still managed to convert a .divx file to MP4, and MyDVD still accepts a DivX AVI for input.

On the face of it, it seems safe to uninstall the DivX components. However I would mention:

-I'm not a Roxio employee or representative

-I haven't tested it extensively

-If uninstalling DivX Plus does break something that you feel is vital, you might have to do either a repair or else uninstall the rest of Creator 2012 and then reinstall it all to get yourself back to your present position.

Regards,

Brendon
