Video Wave Hanges When Adding A Video

I just upgraded to Roxio Creator 2012 Pro because Roxio Creator 2011 Pro was hanging consistently when I attempted to add videos to the edit line. If the video is larger than 100 Megs it thinks for a long, long time (2 minutes plus) and then eventually stops working altogether. The same videos edit easily in Microsoft's Movie Maker. My pc is a quod processing, HP with 8 Gig of Ram and a 1 Gig video card. I bought the hightest end pc from Best Buy less than a year ago for the purpose of being able to edit this type of video.

 

Any tips as to why the software keeps hanging like this?

File size means nothing. What format is the video you are trying to add? How long in time is the video?

File format doesn't seem to matter either. .mov is the current file I am struggling with but have had trouble with .mp2 and .avi files. Again, everything works fine in Microsoft Windows Movie Maker.
