Blu-Ray Disc Menu Not Functioning

malacca73

Question

I just created a Blu-ray disc with eight separate movies on it. Encoded and burned without a hitch, but when I try to play it, only the first three items work. I can select the others and hit 'Play' but then the screen goes black and nothing happens. I have tried this disc on four different Blu-ray players, and all are exhibiting the same problem.

Does anyone have any insight on what might be causing this? I apologize if this has been addressed in a previous topic, but I didn't find it when I searched.

Thanks.

How do you test the disc image? I have created one but I cannot access it via Roxio Player.

I had some trouble doing that with Lion as well. I got it to work by selecting the disc image using the Image File setting in the Toast Copy window and then clicking Mount Disc. Presuming it mounts, open Roxio Video Player and simply choose the top level of the mounted volume and it will start playing the first title. It also is supposed to play from the Blu-ray disc as well.

I too am having similar problem. Trying to create a Blu-Ray with two titles. The first title always works, the second never works. It appears to have encoded it as you can see it do it in the render progress bar, it's just that you can't play it in a Blu-Ray player. Very frustrating. Many attempts with different files, always the same result. I always make an image file first and let it render overnight, then burn the image later to BD.

Well, I submitted a ticket to Roxio Support about this, and they said they were experiencing some problems with Lion and would soon be releasing an update. They suggested I uninstall and then reinstall Toast, as well. I did that, and then I got a message saying that a new revision of Toasy 11.0.4 was available, so I downloaded that. I'm going to try re-doing a High Definition DVD tomorrow and see what happens. Fingers crossed.

Hi - I am new to this thread. I have experienced the same problems with the menu not playing all of the videos. I was wondering if

there are any new hints or solutions out there. I am using Toast 11 Pro. There are no updates for 11.0.4 that I can see.

Anyone out there solve the menu play back problem?

So, now that the 'Blu-ray on DVD' option seems to be screwing up as well, does anyone know of another program that would allow me to do that? Compressor doesn't seem to have that option.

I did this many times with Toast 10, and I believe they all worked, so I was going to try it again with that, but I can't seem to find my HD/BD plugin for Toast 10. Can that co-exist with the HD/BD plugin for Toast 11, or did I have to delete it when I installed 11?

Just got Compressor and trying your suggestion!

Glad to hear Compressor worked for you.

I just created a 'High Definition DVD' and had the same problem with only one menu item playing. I didn't think that was a problem before, but maybe I just wasn't paying attention. I can always access all of the menu items using the disk image and Roxio Video Player, so that does suggest it is a problem with the menu creation. Quite disappointing. I hate to kick Toast to the curb, as I've been using it for years, but this is totally unacceptable. As I mentioned, I've tried these discs on four different players, so I don't think it's the players' fault.

Blu Ray player and PS3 both up to date.

I'm having to wait to try anything until new BD discs arrive.

Unfortunately I don't have Compressor.

I would look for a different type of software but having spent the money for the BD plug in don't think i should!

If you select the continuous play option in Toast then the disc should play from one title to the next without returning to the menu. Does you player have any control to allow selecting titles without returning to the menu?

This also may be an incompatibility between Toast's Blu-ray authoring and certain Blu-ray players. Have you checked if a firmware update is available for your Blu-ray player?

There definitely is something going on with discs burned by Toast on many Blu-ray players. I burned my original discs under Snow Leopard, then tried again under Lion, both had the same problem, so that didn't seem to be the problem. Tried them on 4 different Blu-ray players, all returned the same problems, so it doesn't seem like it's just certain players. I tried creating the disc image, and then burning without first making a disc image. I eventually just stuck all the videos together and then created a Blu-ray in Compressor with each of the titles being a chapter, so the disc could be navigated that way. Just finished it tonight and it works well.

My Blu-ray player also has a 24p function that can kick in and send a true 24p signal to my TV when the footage is 24p. My videos are in 24p , and when I tried the Toast-burned discs, the parts that I could watch looked horribly choppy, so I had to turn off that feature. Then they played fine. The Compressor-burned disc played perfectly in the 24p mode. As I said, the Toast-burned disc looked fine without the 24p mode turned on, so I don't really know what the particular advantage of that mode is. I just thought I'd mention it.

I can play all titles from disc image on Roxio Video Player

So this does indeed suggest problem with menu.

I can only guess that when new discs arrive i should burn with the no menu option selected???

Splash and Cut.

I am using 11.0.4

I will try and create using no menu option but have to wait for more discs - 3 coasters today :-(

I did the continuous play option - would the menu affect that? As soon as title 1 finishes the screen remains black.

Im very frustrated by this - i want to start creating Blu Rays with more than one title on it!

I have just burned my first Blu Ray using Toast. 3 films and 3 boxes on the menu. Only 1 title plays.

Am creating another now using different menu and will try the Roxio player tip later.

Glad I'm not the only one!

Unfortunately I don't yet have a Blu-ray player so I can't check with a burned disc. I have tested with a three-title Blu-ray disc image and all three titles are playable with Roxio Video Player. To access the titles there is a button near the right of the playbar that drops down a list of titles. But since that doesn't use the disc's menu to access the titles it doesn't prove anything other than that the titles are all there.

I don't know if the issue you are experiencing is because of running Toast in Lion. I'm presuming you're using Toast 11.0.4. What menu style did you choose?

Didn't work. Only first title out of five plays. I've bought a Blu ray burner and I seem to be only able to make discs with one title that works!

I tried playing using the player but that freezes my iMac

Can anyone help?

I managed to see the playlist and 5 titles were there.

Will burning using the no menu work?

I can't afford too many coasters...

Thanks

Si

Are you running Snow Leopard (10.6) or Lion (10.7)?

Well, that sure didn't work. Only the first two items worked on the disc I made without first saving it as a disc image. [sigh] This is very frustrating. I don't like creating these expensive Blu-ray coasters… :angry2:

I'm curious what happens when you play the Toast-burned Blu-ray disc with Roxio Video Player. In the Controls menu you should see a list of all the titles on the disc. Can you play each of them there? If so this would confirm the problem is with the menu. Which menu style did you choose? If not, then something else is wrong. You mention clicking play when the menu item is selected. I'm not sure if that's how to start playback. It may be you need to press an enter or select button. I'm probably wrong about that because pressing play worked with the first three titles.
