Toast 11 Avi To Dvd Player

Dorfmann

Question

I am very new to Toast. I have seen this problem on previous verions, but I have 11. I am trying to archive my .avi, .mp4, .mpg, etc. My very first effort was an avi and went fine until I tested playback. It does not play from the title screen. When I go into the dvd drive as a "file" I can access the chapters indevidually, but will not play the audio. Am I an idiot? The tutorial vids made this look very simple.

FYI

Main screen looks like blue water with chapter nubers and no "play" etc

A couple things. One is that many AVI files require you to have the perian codec installed (perian.org) in order for there to be audio when Toast converts it to a DVD. The other thing is I think you're not selecting the point on the menu that starts the playback. It is particularly difficult when using that menu style. It is the little dot to the left of the title name. I recommend using a different menu style in the future. The style is selected by clicking on the menu style in the Toast window and selecting a what you want from the list that pops up. It may be easier if you choose Customize... which opens a window where there is a Menu tab in which you can select menu style options. The ones with the thumbnail images of each title are the easiest to play back because you just click on the thumbnail.

If you're not seeing the menu style or the Customize... button then you have the Media Browser blocking the Options panel. Click on Options at the top right of the Toast window. I prefer to have the Media panel float as a separate window so it doesn't block the Options panel. This is done by choosing Show Media Browser from the Windows menu in the Mac's very top menu bar. That way you can use the media browser and have full visibility of the Options panel.
