Toast 10 And Spin Doctor

chashans

Question

In Spin Doctor when saving multiple active tracks from a vinyl album as MP3's to the iTunes library everything seems fine until I go to the iTunes program to verify a sucessful transfer. The multiple tracks all play as the first recording on the vinyl album. Each vary in length (as do the originals on the album), in some cases the recording (song) might be cut short and in other cases the file will include part of the following song on the album.

I updated Toast 10 but that did not improve the problem. I then updated Spin Doctor and the update required that I enter a key number. I entered the key that came with the Toast 10 bundle and it was rejected as invalid. Now I cannot open Spin Doctor to see if the first problem has been corrected.

I am running OSX 10.6.8, 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB 800MHz SDRAM, with over 150GB of space remaining.

The standalone update to CD Spin Doctor is not for the version bundled with Toast 10. The latest version of CD Spin Doctor for you is the one in the Toast Titanium folder.

A possible workaround to try is dragging the tracks from the track list in Spin Doctor to the Finder. Check if those are correct. If so you can add them to iTunes and depending on iTunes import settings they will be converted to mp3. Another possible workaround may be to send the tracks to Toast and save as disc image. Then add the resulting .sd2f file to the Audio Files setting in the Toast Convert window and then send to iTunes. Let me know if any of this works.

Thank you for the prompt reply.

Pretty confusing for me to know the difference between the two versions. I thought that a Spin Doctor update was a Spin Doctor update. In any case the bundled version has now disappeared. Seems to me that I replaced it with the standalone update version. I do not have a key for the standalone version so I cannot open the program. Where can I now find the bundled version (and how to identify it), that was displaced, so that I can drag it back into the Toast folder and apply your suggestions?

By the way...Spin Doctor worked very well for the several years that I have used it.

Appreciate your help.

Download the Toast 10.0.9 update from Roxio's software updates page. Mount the downloaded file and drag the Toast 10 Titanium folder to your Applications folder. Since you already have a Toast 10 Titanium folder there you'll be asked if you want to replace it. Click okay if that is okay with you. Otherwise, rename the existing Toast 10 Titanium folder so it doesn't get replaced. The latest version of CD Spin Doctor is there. The only registration that's required is that you launch Toast 10 once before launching Spin Doctor.

I tried what you suggested several times...I still get the request for the key (see attached). As I have the original toast 10 Titanium installation disk I am considering completely uninstalling the software (as per the instructions on Roxio's website) and reinstalling the programs.

Good idea?

I'm not sure why you're getting that. What you're seeing is the registration window when the standalone version of CD Spin Doctor is launched. When launching the version that's inside the Toast 10 Titanium folder there is no registration window. Maybe you need to go to the User>Library>Preferences folder and trash the cdspindoctor plist file because that may be what's causing the mixup. By all means trash that standalone version you downloaded.

The way the Toast 10-bundled version works is that you launch Toast and go through its registration setup windows. After doing that (and possibly quitting Toast as well) the Toast-bundled CD Spin Doctor knows that it is licensed.

Is this the cdspindoctor plist file? (see attached). I want to be careful what I delete. I think that the original Spin Doctor file was replaced by the update download. One of my original questions was "where would it be on my computer if it were replaced by the new download. I did not rename it...but might have dragged it out of the application folder to the desktop so that the update would install (I realize now that I should have simply renamed it and left it there). Where might I find that file now?

Wouldn't it be easier to uninstall and reinstall toast 10 using the CD?

Yes, that's the CD Spin Doctor plist file you can trash. The standalone download should not have replaced the one in the Toast 10 Titanium folder unless you had removed it from that folder to the top level of the Applications folder. There are various ways to search in the Finder for any Spin Doctor application's location. The standalone version should be at the top level of the Application's folder and the Toast-bundled version should be in the Toast 10 Titanium folder inside the Applications folder.

I removed the Toast 10 Titanium software using the instructions provided on Roxio's website. I then reinstalled it and checked out Spin Doctor. It did not work. Meanwhile I received an Toast update for Toast 10 which I attempted to install...it failed (long story here). Now in the Toast 10 folder only Spin Doctor remains. At this point I am convinced that I should upgrade to Toast 11. My question is...should I remove Toast 10 completely again...or how to proceed before installing the new Toast 11 upgrade?

Thank you.

It's strange that Toast did not work when you did a complete reinstall. Did you install from the latest Toast 10 update downloaded from the Roxio Software Updates page? If not, that's all you need to do. You don't need to install from the original disc. Remember that you first need to launch Toast and go through its registration (then probably quit Toast as well) before CD Spin Doctor will launch.

The new Spin Doctor X bundled with Toast 11 has huge problems. At this point I can't recommend it. I'm hopeful that Roxio fixes it but it's been a long time waiting already. There's a company called Bias that is selling an application called SoundSaver that is a much better choice at this time.

I was able to get Toast up and apparently running again...using your recent instructions. Spin Doctor is still having the same problems as my first post on this thread. However I am very happy that I am back to this point again. I will check out Sound Saver, thank you for that advice. Perhaps I will start another thread here regarding Spin Doctor to see if anyone will happen along with some more ideas.

tsantee...thank you for your time and effort with this. I have learned many things along the way.

I've been having the same problems with Spin Doctor in Toast 10.

Updated all.

Still same problem.

I have a workaround, that works for me, until ROXIO finally get their finger out and fix it.

(I did buy the app though)

I have a great App called Audio Hijack Pro (google it) it will hijack the CD spin doctor app (also will extract sound files from any app that makes sound) and extract the sound that still plays through it, from whatever sound source you have.

Record player and cassette for me. After recording an Aiff file I drag that back into spin doctor and define tracks, add filters and send to iTunes (as that bit still works in Lion)

Audio Hijack Pro is a neat little app too.

Hope this helps

Eventually they'll fix it ..........Although looking at other posts roxio expect everyone to upgrade to 11.

I got lost on this suggestion. What is "the Toast Convert window"? I dragged the file onto the window with the Apple TV icon. I also do not see any way to send the resulting files to iTunes. I think I can hit the burn button and these save to iTunes? I want to have it as an AIFF.
