Multiple Items On One Disk

New to Mac. Roxio Easy Media Creator on my PC allowed me to create multiple folders on one disk (CD orDVD -Rewritable) until full. With Popcorn 4 I place one item and it automatically fills the disk. It doesn't matter if it is photo, video or, data. And I really need the data. Prior to on-line purchase, I was told by Roxio that it would do this. Now, It is nearly impossible to get any sort of support. HELP!

Popcorn is not for burning data. It is for creating video discs and for converting video to other formats. Toast is the application that supports burning data.

 

In any case, Mac's can burn sessions to CD-R media but not to DVD media. When burning sessions to CD-R media each session appears as a new volume on the desktop when the disc is mounted. So it is much different from the way this works with PCs. If you are looking for something that can burn incrementally to a DVD then you are better off using a 4 GB flash drive for that purpose. When it gets full, burn it to a DVD disc, erase the flash drive and begin again.

 

If you bought Popcorn from Roxio's online store you can get a refund within 30 days. You need Toast rather than Popcorn.

Thank you very much. I specifically asked the Roxio sales person on the phone if Popcorn would support what I wanted it to do. I'll exchange for toast. But, not being a computer person, does the rest of your reply mean that I cannot use a MAC for incremental sessions and that even placing one item on a disc fills it, so to speak? On the PC with Easy Media Creator, I could create multiple folders on a disk, then fill each at different times until the disk was full.

That's what it means when using DVD media. The Mac OS doesn't support it. In other words, If Toast did burn it, the Mac wouldn't mount it. You can burn multiple times to a CD-R or CD-RW using what is called "Write Session" rather than "Write Disc." If you tell Toast to use the IS)9660 format then all the sessions appear in one volume in the Finder. If Toast uses a Mac format then the sessions appear as individual volumes in the Finder. You can't erase incrementally. You can only add more until the CD is full.

 

My understanding is if you bought an external Blu-ray burner you can use Toast to burn to a Blu-ray disc incrementally like it is an external hard drive. But it's cheaper to just buy an external hard drive or cheaper still to buy a USB flash drive. Using one of those you don't need Toast at all. You also might read about the Mac OS built-in disc burning tools. One method allows burning in the Finder by inserting a blank disc, adding the content you want and then the disc is burned when you are ready to eject it. The other uses Disk Utility (in the Applications>Utility folder. Toast does things beyond what those do, but if that's all you need....
