Burn To Dvd+R Dl Disk

joca

Question

I have an edited 1hr 14 min HD in videowave i need to get this to SD on a DL disk or image file. I can't quite work out the settings and or for exporting. In send to my dvd is confusing and to export what would be the best setting.Basically just how do I get my production onto a DL disk ? as a standard definition.

The file is a AVCHD video (m2ts) 1920 x 1080 8950 bitrate 29fps.

Your video card/chip,

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430

Manufacturer: NVIDIA

Chip type: GeForce 6150SE nForce 430

With,

Display Memory: 1065 MB

Dedicated Memory: 57 MB

Is this a laptop or desktop?

From MyDVD tools, options, are you rendering using Hardware or software?

This is a desktop and it is being used for all editing burning etc

I am writing this reply on a mac bk pro purely so as to able to communicate without interruption

I am rendering with software because I read in the help files that it might help but I have also used the hardware tab.

Graphics are onboard mobo

Just as a preamble I am currently seriously thinking of upgrading my desktop with new mobo. cpu, psu and ram but I am not a gamer and I obviously like roxio for editing and am used to it, as I already said this is driving me nut's

Probably the North Atlantic is a bit rough tonight (UK)

OK I have temporarily given up trying to burn a large project as SD to a dual layer disk so I am currently burning as AVHD to image then I will hopefully burn that to a DL disk.

You may think why all the fuss about SD on DL well! In our small village we held a bygone farming rally in SEPT involving vintage farming machinery and I am trying to produce a dvd for our members and as far as technology is concerned everybody does not have a bluray or hd player so I am trying to produce both formats. Yes I can produce this on a single sided 4.7gig disk but the payoff is a degraded quality production and as I purchased this Roxio in March that should produce what I want I want to make it work. I have had a lot of problems over the time including other issues like continual crashing whilst editing which adds a massive amount of time to my projects. I accept that some problems can be attributed to my own inexperience with the programme but NOT ALL.I am very thankful for the help that I have been receiving here I have even downloaded the programme a second time. You can imagine how frustrated I have become so much so I am considering to abandon Roxio.

Vintage farm machinery, cool I worked for John Deere 33 years.

Having several folks giving different opinions and different directions for you to try might be confusing/frustrating.

Continuing to create a AVHD project to a DL disc that has failed before with the same project files?

That is why I suggested abandoning your project and download the small 349MB file I posted a link to, I know works. If that small file works we know your Roxio software and hardware are functioning and your project could be the cause of all your problems.

Download the file, open MyDVD choose no menu DVD project and follow the red arrows. ;)

Thanks again I really like the way you explain things with your snap shots and yes you are right it is a little confusing having stuff coming in all directions but I accept that it is only people trying to help. I will try and get your link again later I don't know why it did not work last night probably a broadband issue. Hey John Deere eh yes I got some footage of a couple of JD tractors ,but also got some good footage of a few US vintage tractors that local enthusiast's own here.Sorry going off subject getting carried away.

Did you try what was suggested in post #21 and #22? There is no noticeable loss of quality.

Yes Walt I did and I do feel there is a drop in quality that is noticeable particularly with moving objects close by, however I have now managed to get the file from mpeg 2 onto a dual layer disc without compressing it and the quality is a marked improvement I am at the moment now trying to get it into a HD format but the rub is the encoding time is a bit of a marathon. But let me say straight away here it is a steep learning curve and it is only talking to you guys that I am learning to navigate around the unknowns. Once again the easy way would be via bluray but I don't at this time have a writer.

Are you aware?

AVCHD discs cannot be played in a standard DVD player, but can be played in many but not all Blu-ray Disc players..

Yes I am aware that avchd cannot be played in a standard dvd player that is why I am trying to produce in hd & sd I have a bluray player & it plays in that BUT I was not aware that it would not play in ALL bluray players.

Out of all of this I am finding out the many different way's there are to achieve the same result in Roxio.

I am going to try your latest suggestion of snap shot help files which I previously said were really useful for me. I'm 72 and probably not quite as sharp as I used to be lol.

One thing! I have just produced a dual layer disc from a avchd iso and included in the original videowave file was two video effects I.E. two 3D cylinder effects and they have not reproduced on this disc but did so on the SD compessed copy and the SD produced on a dual layer disc. is there a known reason for this ? because I would like to find out why.

I am sorry but your test movie does not go beyond the add movie point I get not responding and the programme just freezes which is a shame because the clip is really beautiful however I would hope that this tells you something other than the fact it does not work on this pc right now

sorry the above did not work I am confused because I can't see how I will get 5373 MB high quality on a one sided disk

The burn program will automatically "adjust" the file to fit when burning. I do it this way all the time for files that are up to 90 minutes long. You will not notice much loss in quality.

Did you create the iso file successfully?

I changed back to hardware but I still cannot get your file past add new movie it just freezes.

As I previously said I have managed to produce a AVCHD disc from my project all be it took 7hrs 10 mins to render but I put the time taken down to a lack of kick arse in my kit so I will abandon hd for now untill I upgrade and stick with SD.

When I export I am presented with a whole load of options. Is the best option MPEG 2 ? I am not a fan of "fit to disk"

thanks for your time

If you are making a video disc to distribute, just save the project file from Video Wave and open Create DVD. Select the DVD options (with or without menu) add the saved project. Select HQ (high quality) and encode (render) to an ISO file. Once that completes, burn the ISO to a disc using the application "Burn ISO file to disc" You can copy the ISO to as many discs as you want and they will all be the same.

There is no need to output the project to an mpg2 for DVD file beforehand. In fact, it may save some time if you don't select the right output. Create DVD will do the right conversion to put the project file into the correct format. Remember to select PAL for your part of the world.

OK thanks a lot

Now what about HD? I don't have a bluray writer but I film using a Canon HFS200 HD how would you go about producing a HD disc using my current option A dual layer disk assuming my file is larger than 4.7gig I have produced a AVCHD of the current project but I really don't know if

1. that's the correct format I should use

2.if not then what one should I use

3. are there any other alternatives

Because I don't only want to know how to do it I also want to know the best way to do it using dual layer discs. Just because my kit is a bit slow it means I have to be slow with it. I was refering to this particular project, but I have another project coming up in Norwich Cathedral with filming local school children performing live some songs that they have sung on a C and acting a nativity. This looks like it will run over an hour. I will be hoping to change my motherboard and cpu and acquire a graphics card soon whether that happens before Xmas I don't yet know.

Instead of wasting time and money on upgrading the motherboard, CPU and video card you wiould be better off getting a new computer.

Sorry I can't agree with you on that one. A new mobo cpu graphics constitutes the best part of a new pc as far as I am aware. in any case I already have a new laptop although that is a mac great m/c but I don't fancy titanium or final cut pro. widows is in my opinion the better option. More poeple using windows

I build my own box's and if your current power supply is large enough to handle new video card power requirements? And your running SATA revision 2.0 (SATA 3 Gbit/s) or SATA revision 3.0 (SATA 6 Gbit/s) hard drives? Then I agree with your statement above..

I still cannot get your file past add new movie it just freezes.

The file you cannot get past add new movie is a AVCHD.m2ts file 1920 x 1080 from a Panasonic camera.

I'm with you here I have 650 watt psu and all SATA HD and rom drive my current mobo was not built with the intention of making movies that has come since so what I have is quite adequate for general stuff but obviously not up to making movies so I will put that right.

It seems that there is a fixation on the DL disc being the issue; I doubt it ! There is somehting else going on.

!) Have you ever used a DL disc before so that you know that your burner is capable?

2) Have you burned to single layer in the past?

3) Your issue seems not to be with the DL disc but with somehting else going on with the program or your computer.

4) If you started with HD, you would need to slect a 16 by 9 format in Video Wave. After you have done all your editing, select to output/export the video file to mpg2 fro DVD best quality. If it encodes, you can use that to burn to a DL disc. The process is the same as the single layer disc. If it does not encode, then the program will hang and you willl have to find out why. At least you'll know that it is the project and not the program.

5) When you do go to burn, select high quality and yes, select the option for DL.

6) Make the ISO file or the folder set and burn that to a dl disc with "Burn Disc Image" or Video Copy and Convert.

I really think there is something wrong with your project or the program has become corrupt.

Please give us the information on your computer including the OS and what video card you have.

Thank you once again for your detailed reply i will give it the attention it deserves so it may take me a little time to get the info together. But for now yes I have already exported to mpeg2 without problem but ocviously my problem is that 1hr 14mins is far too big for a 4.7. and to compress brings the quality tumbling. But as i say I will answer your reply asap. A lot of the problem is I am not too sure where to tread I normally just do it but with much smaller files.

Yes if that is what your using/need.

What problems are you having "I am still having a problem on image and fileset"

I would suggest burning to those then burn to a disc using MyDVD or Video Copy and Convert.
