This is a pre-purchase question regarding the creation of a slidesow. Does Creator allow you to compose slides using multiple individual photos, or would I have to compose these outside of Roxio? If so, how much control do you have over placement and orientation of the photos on the slide?

Yes, you can add more than one picture to a single color panel, as overlays. You can move those overlays around in the color panel.
