Editing .mov Files, Video & Audio Out Of Sync.

jimmya

Question

I just installed Roxio 2012 on my Windows 7 Gateway (3.3 processor / 8gb RAM) system. All works smoothly except when trying to edit my .mov files from my Canon dslr, the video and audio won't sync. The audio is running about 3-seconds ahead of the video... in the time line edit screen.

This is not captured video but loaded files from my camera.

I have tried converting to mpeg4 but the conversion, as played in Windows Media Player is out of sync by the same amount???

I have some old avi video files, they run in sync in the time line.

Can this issue be resolved?

I also have version 10 which I don't currently have installed. It was installed on this computer but liked to crash a lot. I did an uninstall on the program prior to installing 12. I didn't have SP2 installed in version 10 - perhaps that's what I need to do. By the way 10 ran my .mov files in sync in the time line. Editing was difficult because of the crashing issue.

I like 12 and I'm hopeful I didn't waist my cash on this program. If anyone has a solution it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. Jim

That issue is common with mov files from digital photo cameras. There is no cure nor update. Use a free video converter to convert the mov files to mpg2 (standard or high definition). Go to cnet.com and you'll see a lot of them. I use "Any Video Converter" because it is fast and it will do batch conversion.

The issue I have with it is that the drop down arrows for the options can't be seen unless you click on the option.

Post a short clip we could download at a free file hosting site like upfordown. Then post a link to the file in this post.

.mov Files Primary association QuickTime.

Do you even have Quicktime installed?

QuickTime 7.7.1 for Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7 >> http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

A general fix for audio sync when the whole audio track is out of sync by the same amount .. as opposed to problems where it starts in sync and gradually drifts out of sync.

I purchased and downloaded a movie online and the sound was out of sync by a few seconds so I opened the video in windows movie maker and saved it as a SOUND. Then I opened the video in videowave and removed the sound *which was out of sync* and added the SOUND that I made witn WMM. I moved that SOUND in the timeline until it matched the video and then exported the movie. Maybe videowave could have done the whole process of seperating the audio and tweak it but I had just gotten Creator 12 and wasn't familiar with it and found the solution using WMM and videowave.

No need to use WMM since Videowave will do the same thing. All you do is extract the audio from the video and the add the audio to one of the other audio tracks. Mute the native audio and then export.
