No Audio, No Stored Video

deepstop

Question

I thought I'd posted this already. I couldn't see anything in the notes about quarantined posts, so I'll try again. Sorry if this is a duplicate.

I have two problems. My computer is a Dell XPS9100 with 12GB memory and Windows 7. Updates have been applied.

I feed it composite video and audio. Video shows up on screen in the application. Audio doesn't. The meters don't move. The device exists as far as windows is concerned but shows no activity there either, and enabling monitoring does nothing. I've tested with another device at the same end of the audio cable that I plug the Roxio adapter into and it is loud and clear.

Also when I capture video it looks like it's working - counting the seconds - but does not create a file.

I'm stumped.

Thanks for any help you might provide.

Chris

If you have Vista or Win7 they changed how they record and play Audio…

Right Click your Speaker icon and make sure you have the Roxio USB device selected for recording…

Thanks for the reply. I see something very similar to your picture. The device is definitely the default. Interesting that I can send the video to youtube using the webcam function (got the idea from the adjacent post), but it keeps displaying "looking for microphone activity". So the audio problem doesn't appear to be with the application, and I confirmed it's trying to read the USB 2861 device.

A little more info. I tried plugging the audio into some other devices, and using the microphone jack got the left meter in the app to start moving. I couldn't reproduce that, but then tried the record function and the meters came to life and recorded the video with good lip-sync. Back to the USB 2861 the audio meters in the pictured control panel never budge, so it looks like there is either something amiss with the driver, its relationship with the computer, or the device itself. If the latter, I'll probably just configure a different input. The microphone jack isn't sufficient as it is mono, but something else will surely work.

So it seems that (a) Audio is required in order to record a clip, and (B) Recording is required, at least in some circumstances, to register Audio, and © I still have a problem getting audio input through the 2861.
