Chapter Thumbnails

movie_nut

Question

When I manually mark chapters after editing a TIVO file, the finished DVD doesn't show thumbnails from the correct place in the edited file. The first chapter thumbnail appears to be from the trimmed footage, and the other thumbnails are also displaced, as if they have been marked from the start of the original, unedited file. The chapters themselves are in the correct place. Is there a function similar to "Set Picture", but for the chapter thumbnails?

I haven't experimented with this but there seems to be some bugs in the Toast editor. A possible workaround is to not mark the chapters and then choose Save as Disc Image. Mount the resulting disc image that already has the edits completed and drag the video from the disc image back to where you were at in Toast and now mark your chapters. Then burn the disc.

Thanks for the reply. Do you mean to save the DVD disc image, then drag the VOB file from the mounted image back into Toast?

I wasn't sure from your first post if you were making a DVD video or a Blu-ray video so I was being vague. Mount the disc image and choose DVD in the Video tab of the Toast Media Browser. There you'll see your video title to drag to the main Toast window just as you were able to drag the TiVo video to the main Toast window. I'm thinking that doing the editing and chapter marking as two different projects may get the thumbnails to match the chapter points. This shouldn't be necessary, of course, and I'm not sure it will work. But give it a try and let me know what you find.

I'll try the Media Browser route - hadn't thought of that. I have been just dragging the first VOB out of the mounted image and marking the chapters since your previous reply, and it's been working. I do find the editor is not frame accurate: it lags about a dozen frames, but I allow for that, and I'm not doing really precise editing anyway.
