Creator 2012 Installed, Worked And Then Failed

Timaru

Question

I installed Roxio Creator 2012 Pro and after several days work managed to start it (See saga in other topic)! The program ran well for a few days but has now reverted to its original behaviour (on start-up of Vista):

1. Burn Launcher has stopped

2. RoxMMTrayApp has stopped

3. RoxWatch12 Has closed

Creator 2012 and all its components will not run. The event log shows a "side by side" error in Visual C ++.

I have checked what if anything has changed since I installed the program. I installed the following programs ITunes 10.5, Adobe shockwave, VLC 1.1.11, SunnyExplorer, Google toolbar.

I have now removed all except ITunes 10.5 which took a week to get working!!

Is there a generic problem between Roxio Creator 2012 and Itunes 10.5?

I have Visual C++ 2010 and 2005 installed. I had Creator 2012 working well without Visual C++ 2008 sp 1

Your feedback dear reader would be very gratefully received!

Seasons Greetings!

UPDATE: Tried a full uninstall using the suggested method at the head post of this section. Install appeared to work, but on restart got Runtime Error,

Visual C++ Runtime Library C:\Program Files|C.....

Content Merger Module

RoxWatch12 Module and Rox MMTray App Module all failed

Windows Sidebar also failed.

Any suggestions?

Hi Sonic, sorry, I've been away for New Years, Happy New Year to you!

OK Looking at your replies.... Thanks for running the tests. Clearly itunes 10.5 isn't the problem, which is a relief! The bizarre thing is that I had Roxio Creator 2012 pro up and running for a week before it reverted to the original behaviour. Some bits and bobs....

I'm using Vista Home Premium with SP2 installed. I keep the PC on Auto update so I am sure that MS dumped something on my machine in the last 2 weeks! I have a huge number of Programs many of which do very little. I have Norton Internet Security 19.2.0.10 active and I use a Hardware Router with Firewall. No signs of any Malware or Viruses!

So given the above I plan on removing Garmin Base camp and Turbo Lister 2 to see what happens!!

As usual any observations gratefully received!

It might not be those apps that are causing the issue. They could be failing to load as well. My guess is that it is a Microsoft update messing up the side by side loading of the VC++ 2008 resources. Not a pretty picture.

I found this article where a user is having the same issue with Windows Live Messenger.

Runs and then doesn't run is typical of the problems that you get with an overactive registry cleaner. You have one in your anti-virus suite. Turn the registry cleaner off and never run it again (once you get the program running again).

Thanks Sknis / Sonic, I take your point about Norton AV, if it did change anything it didn't tell me!! I have now removed both Garmin Base Camp and Turbo Lister 2. No change to the problem. I tried a clean boot (All start-up elements selected disabled). Off course I got no error messages! Attempted to start Roxio 2012, got a pop up Roxio label for a second and then nothing. Event viewer offers the following:

Pretty much the same problem detailed at the start of this thread!

Any other thoughts as to where to go next?

Your assistance so far is much appreciated!

Hi cdanteek, yes read and digested. Reading it led me to an article at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;2525435. Same problem but with MS Access. For anyone following this topic I will repeat the relevant section below:

Windows Vista

1. To open the Registry Editor, click the Start button and type “regedit.exe” (without the quotation marks) and press the ENTER key. If you see the User Account Control dialog box appear, click Continue.

2. On the left side, expand the tree structure until you find the registry key that starts with "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMPONENTS\Winners\x86_policy.9.0.microsoft.vc90.crt_". Select and expand that key.

3. Below that key, you should see a 9.0 key. Select the 9.0 registry key.

4. In the right side pane, make note of the number you see in the Data column for the row where the Name is set to (Default) in case you need to revert to this number later.

5. Look through the list of numbers in the Name column and find the highest number.

6. Double-click the (Default) string value to open the Edit String dialog box.

7. Replace the number in the "Value data" box with the number you saw in step #5. Click OK.

8. On the File menu, click Exit to close the Registry Editor.

9. After completing step #8 the issue may be resolved. If you continue to see the same problem restart the computer. You may also need to follow the steps below to correct the file association error message.

After making this change to the registry you may still see file association error message. To correct that part of the problem, follow the remaining steps:

Sure enough on starting Roxio I got a missing file association / Registry component message. So, getting dangerously creative, I went to the roxiocentralfx.exe by looking up the properties on the Roxio 2012 icon. I renamed it "roxiocentralfx.old". I then ran the roxio 2012 pro uninstall from the control panel and selected repair. After the setup completed I restarted and .... IT WORKS!

Now I just have to re-enable the start-up programs and see how it goes. Setting a restore point first of course. And following advice above turning off the registry cleaner.

I will report back again after completion but many many thanks to you for your advice so far.

Fingers crossed again!!

Sorry, I missed off the vital piece of information, namely what the article suggested was the problem:

This issue is caused by a conflict with some of the files in the 2008 version of the C run-time libraries. These libraries are part of the Visual Studio 2008 release, the version numbers start with 9.0. These libraries may be installed with several different Microsoft and third party products.

I hope this is of some use for anyone else with the same issue with Roxio 2012 Pro.

Some more feedback on this issue after a few days use. Having got the main program running without apparent problems I am still getting the following error message:

RoxMediaDB13: The description for Event ID 0 from source RoxMediaDB13 cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

Can anyone tell me what RoxMediaDB13 does? Does anyone have a suggestion on how to resolve this problem?

Many thanks in advance,
