C2012 And Lg Passive 3Dtv/bluray Player

ggrussell

Question

Got a great deal this holiday on the LG 47" 3DTV and Bluray combo with 4 sets of glasses (47LW5300). This particular combo uses the passive polarized glasses. I'll have to check LG support to see if they are linear or circular polarized.

Anyway, here are some of my observations with C2012 output and this 3DTV combo. Neither the RealD DVD nor the RealD AVCHD disc were recognized as 3D automatically. I had to manually set the TV to the correct 3D side by side setting. However, the 3D video appeared fine on the screen.

This is not to say I didn't have difficulties. I have a sample .MKV file I downloaded that was ripped from the LG demo Bluray disc. MyDVD did import the file, but the color was off, the image was squished and no sound. File is supposed to be 1080p side by side. Not sure about the sound, but could be DTS.

I have since downloaded the Avatar trailer in 3D (.m2t) and a Grand Canyon demo in 3D (.ts). Both are supposed to be 1080p side by side. I'll be testing those later today to see how MyDVD handles those.

Now all I have to do is save up for that 3D camcorder. :P

Thanks for the information about the 3D --Lg version.

Depending on what you are going to use it for, you don't have to save very long. For close work, I found that the AIptek 3D camcorder did a fantastic job. My son has a 3D TV and we just plugged the camcorder into the USB slot on the TV and stood back in amazement. The black/black camocrder is $175 but the black with the white is $23 cheaper. rolleyes.gif

Thanks -- The Bluray Player has 3D On or Off. When I insert a commercial 3D Bluray, the player switches the TV into 3D mode automatically. This was a combo in a single box. Even the TV remote works with the player and visa versus. The player and TV have something called simplink through HDMI.

I'll check the LG file again with VW. I copied the file to a thumb drive and plugged directly into the TV. Plays fine and the 3D is great.

I could correct the squished preview, but the color still wasn't correct and the audio was distorted. According to Media Info, the file stats:

Matroska 4min 38s

Video stream:AVC 1080i @29.97fps 7784Kbps Baseline@L1.3 (1 ref frame)

Audio stream: AC3 64Kbps, 44.1Khz, 16bit 2 channels

----

Color is off because it defaults to anaglyphic. Doh! So I suppose the only issue is really the audio.
