Can't Even Get Started With Your Software Disc

Steve macca

Question

Just got Roxio "easy" (phaa) vhs to dvd for xmas so that I could transfer all of my cherished home vids to dvd but my computer won't even read the issued software disc. Apparently it's compatible with windows 7, vista and xp. I have xp but I insert the disc and nothing happens. Any danger of some advice on this as I have never had so much trouble in installing anything to my pc in all my life. Far from easy that's for sure.

When I said I was simple with computers I wasn't joking. I don't even know how to screen cap my start up menu in 1st place :( Think I may just cut my losses actually and return the roxio kit and get my money back. Can't believe how time consuming it has been for something that's labelled as easy.

Can you go to Device Manager and list what it shows for the DVD/CD Rom drive (similar to what is shown in Jims image above)?

I have done that and it does register a dvd driver. Like Jim said, I think the laser may be knackered. Think I'll just get an external driver and give that a go. Just found one on e-bay for £15 so A bit cheaper than buying or have this tower repaired. I'll let you know how the external driver works.

Thanks again for all of your help.

Thanks, unfortunately I'm a bit simple in that respect lol. Although I do know the difference between cd and dvd :-)

Good news is the external dvd hardware works a treat. The bad news is I have downloaded Roxio easy vhs to dvd but when I open the program I only get the option to burn audio cd's or mp3 cd's. Could really do with your help again please?

??? you mean you Installed the Easy VHS to DVD from your new external drive. ('download' involves a modem and the internet - programs are installed! just want to make sure we are on the same page  )

But when you go through the Start Menu, you do not see all 3 of these applications in there?

In That Case:

DO NOT attach the USB Device but rather, do the Prep Steps to the letter!

Then start the install of the Suite, only pick Repair when it is offered.

This mainly ensures that an Anti Virus program will not interfere with the install process and should do the trick ;)

Thanks Jim. I only get "Roxio Easy VHS to DVD" app on my start up menu and that's all. I have tried the prep routine and still no luck. Even tried taking off and re-installing the Roxio program another 3 times from scratch but no joy. Obviously it's on there but I just don't get the option to choose VIDEOS-MOVIES. So frustrating.

Do you have a problem using VHS2DVD? Otherwise you post is meaningless.

Although his post may well be meaningless I have to say I do tend to agree. I took mine back to the shop and got a full refund. I will never try anything Roxio again. Absolute waste of my time and complete false advertisement.......Easy? My a**se.

Before that, slap a DVD Movie or some other DVD in it and see what it can do...

Optical DVD Drive actually have two lasers in them :o - One for CD's an another for DVD's so it is possible that one can burn out ~ they are little more than a sophisticated light bulb :P

Thanks Jim. Just tried watching my kids toy story 3 in it and no good. Either that or it just didn't like toy story :-@

Many Thanks.

Thanks very much. Very helpful. It is definitely a dvd rw but may well be broken as I've never tried using it before now and the tower is quite an old one. May try buying an external dvd rw and trying that. Do you think Roxio will work via an external dvd drive?

Thanks again.
