Roxio Game Capture System Not Recognised On Pc

ihoskins

Question

My son bought the Roxio Game capture system for his Xbox recently. I have hooked this up as specified, and the games images appear on the TV without any problem, both sound and video. I have hooked up the computer using the supplied cable, installed the software and updated this from the Roxio website. On the capture screen the status reads 'no signal'. I understand that 'Roxio GAMECAP Capture' should be available as the source, however no sources are available. On the options button the TV standard defaults to Pal_I. On the computer control panel under device drivers, it looks as if the capture system cannot be seen - I understand from other RoxioDiscussion items that there should be 'Roxio Gamecap' displayed under 'sound, video and graphics controllers', but this is not present.

I have tried 2 different computers with the same results. I also tried 2 different computer-roxio cables with the same results - there is nothing wrong with the cables - one was taken from a printer which works fine. The computers are laptops; one is a Sony Vaio Z-series, the other a Samsung; both have maximum screen resolutions < 1920 by 1200, so I got my son to reduce the resolution on the X-box but to no effect.

I have tried full deletion and reinstallation of Roxio software on one computer but to no effect.

Can anyone help? It looks to me as if the computer does not see the Roxio Capture device which suggests that it may be defective.

Other information:

- We did not have the supplied X-box - Roxio cable (component cable) and bought a replacement from 'Game' which has connections for PS3, XBox360 and Wii. I understand that the X-box cable has an HDTV / TV and that this must be set to TV; there is no similar function on the cables from Game.

- We are in the UK. I am reasonably technically competent (Medical Physicist), but sorting this is at/beyond my capability. So far I am 6 hours and counting trying to sort this!

many thanks
