From Dvd, Middle Movies Won't Play On Tv

bbonkerville

Question

The DVD seems to burn fine. When the DVD is put in the DVD player attached to the TV, the menu screen pops up and it'll play the FIRST selection fine. Sometimes the first couple selections

But, without fail, it won't play the middle movies.

When the first feature is done, the DVD spins then jumps to the LAST or one of the last features.

Even selecting a middle feature from the menu does not play. You select the middle feature, screen goes black and then the last feature plays.

I've tried different DVD players and get the same result.

"Playing" the dvd on a computer has a different result, the computers do NOT even recognize the dvd.

I'm having this problem with dvd's that are just finalized iMovie projects.

I'm having this problem with movies pulled directly from the digital camcorder.

I'm using Toast 11 on a new iMac with intel, OS X 10.7.2.

Interesting. Are you using Toast 11.0.4? Do a test by choosing Save as Disc Image rather than clicking the burn button. When the disc image is complete burn it to disc using the Image File setting in the Toast Copy window. What brand of discs are you using? Have you tried a different brand?

I've tried the Disc Image and it won't complete processing. Freezes at 99%

Both Maxell and Memorex DVD-R's.

This is totally a Toast thing. Yesterday I got a different brand of dvd burning software, Wondershare, and it worked like a charm. Same computer, same movie files, same media, same dvd player.

Yes. 11.0.4.

Had the downloaded version. Had same problem. They were great about returning it.

Bought the software on disc at a big box and that's what I'm using now. Yes with 11.0.4 update/version.

I haven't made a video DVD with Toast for awhile so need to do a test to see if I get the same outcome. In the meanwhile you can try trashing the Toast plist and prefs files in your User>Library>Preferences folder and relaunch Toast to see if that makes any difference. Were your source videos in a high resolution that Toast needed to encode to standard definition when making the video DVD or is your camcorder shooting in standard definition?

The videos were shot in high definition. I believe encoding happens (not because I know anything) because when I hit "burn" and the time lapse bar starts, it says "encoding".

Interestingly enough. My first experience though, I'd bought a BluRay burner and the Toast add-on. I jumped right in to high def. burning. That was an LG burner with the downloaded software. Like I mentioned earlier. Same problem. I returned both software and bluray burner.

Current experiences are with apple built in burner.
