30 Second Capture

joca

Question

When capturing in roxio it runs for 30 seconds then stops makes a clip I get it going again and 30 secs it stops again, the same thing happens everytime. I cannot find any settings to find out if this is intentional because it is set wrong. I am capturing from a dcr ip7 handycam. The drivers are ok win found them no problem.

I assume that as there are no replies this is not a known issue. I just wondered whether there could have been a bug concerning 64bit win 7. Perhaps I ought to try another capture app??

Have you set it to import all of the video on the tape, click Capture Entire Tape.

Are you using the firewire connection or the wireless connection? If wireless, what kind of wireless connection do you have and what is the speed?

Are you uisng the memory stick to transfer the video and images? IS it Class 6 or higher?

If you are using the firewwire connection, read this from a review of that camcorder:

" The different data rate makes Micro MV incompatible with the three previous DV flavours - professional DVCam, prosumer DV and Mini DV (which only differ in the size of the cassette), and consumer Digital8 (which uses normal 8mm cassettes; I review a rather fancy Digital8 camera . Those three formats have identical bitstreams and so can just be plugged straight into each other. Micro MV may use FireWire connections just like the DV variants, but it still can't talk to them, or to computer editing software that expects DV data." (Note: My bolding).

Also

" For MPEGs, you can pick a few quality modes from 352 by 288 to 144 by 96 resolution. Like other Sony clip-record cameras, though, the DCR-IP7 has length limits for the clips it produces; they can't each be more than 8Mb in size, regardless of the capacity of the Memory Stick you use.

In 8Mb, the maximum quality mode gives you 45 seconds of recording, and the minimum quality mode gives you four minutes and 40 seconds. The maximum quality mode spits out perfectly acceptable 25 frame per second video, of the sort that lots of cheap webcams can't manage. Webcams, of course, don't have zoom or autofocus or an image stabiliser, either."

I thnk you may be running into this issue if you are using the Memory Stick. or the cassette.

The review says that you probably have to use the Sony software that came with the camcorder in order to not have the issues you are experiencing.

As you can see, there are several possibilities. You'll have to give us more information (as you know).

i am connecting via firewire using a firewire PCi card I have tried both 4 pin and 6 I have tried capture entire tape and other options including different places but it always stops after about 30 seconds or so, funnily I have just read this morning on the sony support one line where it said whole tape capture is required, I have also noted that there is a break at the beginning of the tape due to me stopping and restarting when recording from a vcr so I have just rewound and set it to record from the start again to see if this makes a difference but I'm not holding my breath.

Good luck. This is the review that I found that gave me all the information. I don't like the comments about capture it right the first time or it may be gone forever !

Thanks for the link. I read the review LOL! you want a hassle free easy life don't convert vhs via a dcr ip7e or any other sony dv cams the wrong side of the Ark. I don't know what else to try with this kit suppose I could try win movie maker. Thanks for your effort anyway. If you come across anything perhaps you would let me know. The re-recording didn't make any difference.

Look around, you may find one of these for Creator 2011. This one is for Creator 2012.

I don't know what you can get in your part of the world. You may be able to find somethign on Amazon or e-bay that they can send. There are a lot of USB devices like this but be careful; not all work with the Roxio software.

I have the easycap same sort of thing but to be honest the results are not that good particularly if the vhs tapes are a bit iffy. Thanks for the info anyway. Is there any feedback yet on whether the 2012 works well with the usb dv etc? I have a dvd recorder with scart connections so I could get that down out of the attic including dust lol.
