Ed G
Hi, I have been using Easy CD Creator 5 for a long time. I am blind and it is very user friendly. I have a Dell computer, Windows XP, SP 2. I had to install a new cd/dvd writer: Lite on 24X, iHAS424. After the install, my Roxio program would no longer complete a burn of an mp3 disc. The message had something to do with the cd writer drive. I uninstalled Easy CD creator 5 and installed it again. After the install attempt, my computer now says that Easy Creator 5 is not compatible with this version of Windows. I never any problems at all with Creator 5 until I had this new cd writer installed. I have IE8 on my computer. For the full id of the drives, I opened up Device Manager, and clicked on the entry for DVD/CD-ROM drives, and here is the following: ATAPI iHAS424 B SONY DVD-ROM DD416155. The first one is the only writer in my computer. Can you please tell me how to get Creator 5 to recognize the new burner? I have tried Nero Essentials (came with the writer), and the Creator 5 program is the only one that seems to be suitable for a blind person. Thank you for your help! Brendon
Hello Ed, Please read the pinned post at the top of this forum called "Installing ECDC version 5 in XP" You have three issues to fix here: [1] Compatibility with XP - you should ignore protests from the installer, as the pinned post says. [2] Compatibility with I.E.8 - We have found that Creator usually has problems with I.E.7 and above. Parts stop working. It might be that yours was working OK because Creator was installed before IE8. I don't know, and can't predict what IE8 will do on your system. [3] Compatibility with the new drive - ECDC 5 was designed to work with the drives listed in its look-up table, and has very little ability to work properly with today's burners. I have seen burners it just WON'T work with. I can make you a registry patch which might fool Creator into believing it knows your drive, but there are no guarantees that it will or that it will make Creator work properly. After all, it's software from the year 2001 with a drive from 2011. If you can get your Creator installed and it seems to run, and your drive ID is ATAPI iHAS424 B, and you are prepared to patch your registry, please come back here to this topic and I'll try to make the registry patch for you. Ed G
Hi Brendon, Thank you so much for the assistance. I have several issues now. 1. My Dvd driver id (under device manager) is ATAPI iHAS424 B. There is one space after the I, and 2 spaces after the 4. I thought this might matter to you. 2. I was UNABLE to uninstall IE8. During the uninstall, I received a message that the 'set up cannot copy file webcheck.dll. In the box under that there was an option for C:/Window\ie8. To continue, I was warned that Windows might not function if I continue. I could not cancel, and couldnot continue, so I did a system restore for the day prior. 2. I did install my Easy Creator 5, and I was able to download and install the 5.3.5.v.exe update. My Roxio is now updated. 3. I do not know how to install the drive recognition patch. listed as driveup.5.3.5v.exe. Can you tell me where this is? 4. I tried to copy a disc using Creator 5. I then got a message the Roxio had encountered an error and needed to close- tell Microsoft about this problem. I clicked on a link for help from there, and I got a Roxio link to download a PX Engine. I clicked on that link and there was a note that it would work on all Sonic and SOME Roxio programs. Below that it said that it would apply to Creator 6 and higher. I did not install this PX engine. Should I have done that? With this information, do you think that you can make a registry patch for me to be able to use this Roxio program? Again, this seems to be the only program that I am able to navigate due to my blindness. It is a great program. To recap: how do I download the drive recognition patch, and can you still make me a registry patch? I really look forward to your reply, and am ever so hopeful that this will get my Roxio working again, Thank you again so much for your assistance. Ed G
Oh, and in case it matters, I have Windowx XP, and SP3, not SP2. Thank you again, Ed G
Brendon
Hello Ed, 1. Thanks for the clarification. It matters, but this BBS software won't allow you to write two spaces in a row in a message. We might have to fiddle a bit with the patch, but we can do that. 2. I think we will have to take our chances with the IE8, although that might be causing your present problem. 3. The driveup patch might not be available now. Send me an email address in a private message, and I'll email you a copy. It is less than 1 MB. There should be an envelope symbol under my photo on the left of this message. Click on that to send a PM. 4. Yes, the PX engine is not used in version 5 and below. You did the right thing. Regards, Brendon
Brendon
To finish this topic off, We wrestled with drive recognition for the Lite-On ATAPI iHAS424 B, and with errors which I suspect were caused by the later version of Internet Exploder, but we had very limited success even using a registry patch. Getting a little desperate, Ed bought a TARGUS external USB burner but that couldn't be made to work at all on his system. Finally Ed bought an LG External GE 24 Super Multi DVD Rewriter, plugged it in, and it worked! As he said, "All I had to do was HOOK IT UP, and my ROXIO 5 PROGRAM works GREAT!!!!!" This is a tribute to Ed's persistence despite his blindness, and he has reported back which burner worked for him in case any other users have the same problem. orionarm
The LG External GE 24 Super Multi DVD Rewriter is available (today's date 10/05/23) at: https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&tbm=shop&q=LG+External+GE+24+Super+Multi+DVD+Rewriter&oq=LG+External+GE+24+Super+Multi+DVD+Rewriter&gs_l=products-cc.12...2167.2167.0.3772.1.1.0.0.0.0.114.114.0j1.1.0...0.0...1ac.2.L49LPidc5Zc for $153. That's a little steep for me. Victoria
