I have suddendly had an issue with burning dvd movies, I have never had an issue previously but I am struggling to confirm if it Software, Hardware or Media related.
Basically I am using Verbatim Infiniti DVD-R 4.7Gb discs, my burner is (according to device manager) a HL-DT-ST-BD-RE BH20N Blue Ray Writer in a Dell XPS, my driver is up to date and I am creating DVDs with no menus using MyDVD from within Roxio Creator Premier v 10.2. form various file types but primarily .avi. The discs are being burned at the lowest speed possible and with no other programs running.
The resulting discs play perfectly on every PC I have tried them in (2 laptops, 3 desk tops), but they fail in every stand alone player but they fail in an odd way. They play perfectly at first until roughly half way then freeze and move forward in a sticato fashion sort of frame by frame with the sound stuttering like Norman Collier. If the playback is paused and restarted normal playback is resumed for 5 minutes then the stuttering repeats. I stress these are single layer discs tried across 4 or more stand alone players. I have always used Verbatim discs and never had this issue before, I have tried burning direct from Roxio or producing an ISO and burning with Image Burn but same issue. I have also tried other DVD-R media and even tried burning the ISO produced via another brand new machine - all still fail in the same way.
AVCHD discs burned on same machine and same software on dual layer discs play on the PS3 with no issues and BD-R 25gb discs burned on same machine and software play fine on my stand alone blue ray.
I have now ordered some DVD+R discs (not arrived yet) but I am really not sure this is the issue as I have used DVD-R previously on my old machine with no issues.
Any help or thoughts as to the root of the problem are apppreciated as the next step after trying the DVD+R is buying new software which I would like to avoid.
