VISTA. I meant VISTA. Unfortunately I can't edit the title of the post. But I meant to say Either Easy Cd Creator 6 Or Photosuite 5 Causes Total Failure In Vista.

 

Well, I got some software that originally came with a microadvantage 4x DVD burner bought in December 2003, which included some stuff from Roxio, and it was just fine and dandy on windows XP, but SOMETHING here is causing an EPIC CATASTROPHIC FAILURE in windows vista basic service pack 1 and I was hoping someone would tell me what. See the attached picture file?: THIS is what happens EVERY TIME the computer boots up after ONE of these software packages is installed on vista. It shows this BSOD screen for a tiny, tiny fraction of a second and then reboots automatically again and again and again. No error checking, no system recovery can fix it. When this BSOD event occurs as a result of installing this software, it's a choice between restoring from an available restore point, or do-not-pass-go do-not-collect-200-dollars go-directly-to-reformatting-the-hard-drive-and-reinstalling-windows. I had to REINSTALL EVERYTHING because of this blue screen event the first time, which I attributed to a bad windows update rubbing the wrong way with the operating system since it didn't install perfectly the first time (the installation of the whole compaq package was left on a screen and I had to kill some processes, and some things that should have been installed were not), but no. The second time, everything installed correctly, and I let it do 3 years worth of updates and it was fine with that. Then I proceeded to install my favorite programs before the plan to move everything from my external hard drive back to the main master hard drive. And then I got this blue screen of death again! So it WASN'T the updates, it was one of my old favorite programs.

 

FORTUNATELY, this time, unlike the first time, after MOST of the software installations, vista automatically created a "system restore point" (that must be one of the functionalities that was defective from the first windows vista installation which did not go correctly). I picked a recent one and PRESTO. NO blue screen of death, and EVERYTHING was installed except for TWO THINGS. Roxio easy cd and dvd creator 6 and roxio photosuite 5 (and one other thing after them that I knew was not the problem which I promptly deleted from program files and then reinstalled and it was fine after that).

 

So there you have it. ONE OF THEM causes this blue screen of death. No, I would RATHER not play system-restore-point-Russian-roulette (especially since I MANUALLY created system restore points and when I got the BSOD I started trying to use them and they did not WORK - they said they couldn't be used because there were errors on the hard drive and it had to check the drive for errors - which it did and then said the same thing about not working - but the automatically generated restore points worked), if I can just get someone to tell me WHICH of these products is the cause. Maybe it's both. They're both Roxio, after all. It's one of the two, or it's both. If it's one of the two, I would like to know which one will NOT cause the BSOD, so that I can install it because I liked this programs on XP and want to install one of them if possible. AT LEAST ONE of them is UNDOUBTEDLY the culprit. And Windows Vista DID give me a warning about "compatibility" issues with this version of the program after each one. But it also said the same thing about Nero burning rom 6 and powerdvd and at least one other thing I installed, and THEY were not problems at all.

 

So which is it? Does Roxio easy creator 6 cause epic catastrophic failure in windows vista, does roxio photosuite 5, or do they both? I'm going to be REALLY ticked if I am told one or the other is safe and then I see the BSOD again, by the way.

You should have heeded the warning. My guess is that Nero and/or Power DVD will eventually fail or cause problems with other software or the computer itself.

 

Also the type of failure that you are seeing is not typical for an incompatible software program. How did you go from XP to Vista? Is this a different computer or did you make a conscience effort to upgrade to an "obsolete" operating system that many believe was inferior to XP?

 

Please post your computer specs or at least your manufacturer and operating system.

You updated your operating system from XP to Vista and updated yourself out of Easy Cd Creator 6 and Photosuite 5.

 

They are not compatible with Vista and you got warnings when you installed them.

 

If you like and want those two programs revert back to XP. If your system is that old no way will it run new Roxio software.

Although there's no shortage of things specifically designed to refuse to work on XP for no good reason (such as turbotax). This is a different computer. I am typing on my Windows XP computer I got in June 2003 at this very moment. I also have two windows 98 computers, a 1980s IBM compatible DOS computer, and an Apple IIe. But we're discussing the windows vista computer, which I bought in December 2008, and that is why it came with Vista and not XP and not windows 7 which did not exist yet and not windows 8 which did not exist yet. Incidentally, I TRIED putting windows XP on the vista computer but none of the video drivers worked correctly (http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Operating-Systems/SR5601P-Operating-System-Change-from-Vista-to-XP/m-p/14133 - I'm the last commenter), as well as many other things. It is a compaq SR5601P and have no doubt that I tried to find the drivers that would make it all work in XP and that they simply do not exist - the hardware is apparently designed to not be compatible with it. And now you know why the windows vista computer is running windows vista and not windows xp.

"Please post your computer specs or at least your manufacturer and operating system.": I think just knowing it's a SR5601P pretty much determines all the specs, but if it saves you time looking it up, it has a AMD Athlon X2 4400 processor, 1 gigabyte of RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE Graphics (hardware which apparently won't run correctly with anything else, and the NVIDIA drivers totally screw up the screen on XP) running on Windows Vista Home Basic with Service Pack 1, and I took the western digital 250 gigabyte hard drive that came standard out and replaced it with something that DOESN'T deserve to be populating a landfill, a seagate 1 terabyte hard drive, so that one component is the only thing that is nonstandard for a SR5601P.

I should never get out of bed in the morning if I want to be completely safe in all things. But there is a line between a necessary risk for living one's life the way one wants and a surekill suicide pill, and that line was crossed by at least one of these softwares, which is sure to kill the computer dead and I just want to know which one.

It is a link to a series of forum posts about the finer points of installing windows XP on the SR5601P computer which was designed for Vista, ending with my comment that it's all hogwash and that the video drivers do more harm than good. You wanted to know why I was running dirty old windows vista when I should have been running glorious windows XP on any given computer, that was part of my answer, to an unnecessary question as it was.

Do you understand why it won't work?": And black and white televisions were created years before color television programs aired, and yet the color shows that later appeared worked on the black and white televisions, because they were designed to be backwards compatible. And I can play doom 95 on my windows XP computer. And you want to know something really, really crazy? Office XP 2002 works JUST FINE on vista. Even though it's from 2002, and even more amazing, even though it's CALLED Office XP! Isn't that AMAZING? I think that's AMAZING. Office XP works on Vista. You might think it would only work on XP, but you'd be WRONG! SO THEN. Do YOU understand why it MIGHT work and that you shouldn't assume that it couldn't possibly work?

 

And not just MIGHT. Photosuite 5 DOES work JUST FINE. That's right, I took the risk and went ahead with the experiment since no one would or could answer. And now anyone who might want to install one or the other can find this forum post and find the answer because the answer has been provided by ME and once again I have reaffirmed the adage that if I want something done right, I've got to do it myself. (Thanks a BUNCH, forumites, for your valuable expertise.) SEVERAL restore points in place, I installed Roxio Easy CD creator 6 only, and found that it was without a doubt the terminal element that causes the permanent BSOD on startup. I went back a restore point, deleted it from program files, and installed photosuite 5 and it is JUST FINE. So much for your flat out assertion that it WON'T work. Although when I restarted it, it gave me an error message that one driver was not being used - a CD recording driver from Roxio, that apparently is part of photosuite 5, but photosuite 5 seems to work all the same. Somehow vista is smart enough to decide not to use that driver, but not smart enough to keep from a total failure to even start when easy cd and DVD creator 6 is installed. Go figure. A pity, if I got one or the other, I would much rather have had easy CD and DVD creator 6 than photosuite 5, but them's the breaks.

 

But that's the final result. Roxio easy CD and DVD creator 6 results in an epic failure of windows vista, and photosuite 5 is ok.

That was an awful lot of work and typing to go through, just to prove what Roxio says - That Easy Cd and DVD Creator 6 is not compatible with Vista.

You've also proved that Photosuite 5 isn't Vista compatible either, although you say that some parts of Photosuite 5 are working in Vista for you, so that's a plus.
